1. His father didn't wear his religion on his sleeve, and use it for political advantage, like some politiicans do.
2. After his father was shot, he did think he was saved for a purpose, but he saw it as a "responsibility," not a "mandate" -- and...there..is...a...difference.
Or words to that effect.
