3. Not If We Don't have Something To Offer......
besides hatred. We need some thoughtful, well balanced programs and solutions to our international and domestic problems. "I'm not George Bush" isn't a program. "Repeal the tax cuts" isn't very thoughtful.

1. What is our strategy concerning the current situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, the other Islamic countries??

2. How should the tax code look? How do we use it to provide revenue for government purposes and to stimulate economic growth?

3. What do we do about free trade, protection of domestic industries, maintenance of wages/salaries at living levels?

None of our candidates have addressed these except with slogans.

As I said when I came into this board, I am a Democrat and son of a United Auto Worker toolmaker.

Have I always voted for the Democratic ticket? No. In 1972, 1984, and 1988 I voted for the Republican presidential ticket for what I felt were good and sufficient reasons. I am a Scoop Jackson type Democrat and support a strong national defense and I oppose Communism in all of its different forms.

I truly feel that the efforts to pull the party to the left are going to make us a minority party for years to come. We need to be putting forth programs, all I see in here are slogans and bomb throwing.

I see no discussions as to what a true single payer national health program should look like. I see nothing about simplification of the tax code and designing it to maximize intake while minimizing the effect on the economy.

Just as the Great Depression caused the country to turn from the Republicans to our party, so the trainwreck of the seventies caused the country to turn from us to the Republicans.

The question is, do we wait for another train wreck to take the country back or do we take it back with a vision coupled with strong courses of action? Are we trying to encourage the left or recapture the center?

15. Oh no, an anti-commie, newbie, ankle-biter!!
Hey there, Blue Walley, welcome to DU. You've come to be educated I see?

Good, we all need a little education, eh? But first, let me ask: If you oppose communism "in all it's forms" just like raygoon, aren't you therefore opposed to unions? Unions are, IMO, a form of communism, ie, a community.

Blue, ya bring up some good points. Yes, a plan(s) is(are) needed, but being the republic that we are, we rely on those leaders we elect to come up with the plans. Generally, as long as we elect democrats, we can count on pretty good plans. It's when the publicans get elected that bad plans get the upper hand. Eh?

Where we stand today, with the republic being run by the raygoonites, is on a slippery slope into the abyss. Yes?

What we first need to be doing is uniting together to take the reigns of power from those publicans who would, IMO, make slaves out of us. Ya know, the anti-unionists.

Peace, BeFree

16. Not necessarily
"Good, we all need a little education, eh? But first, let me ask: If you oppose communism "in all it's forms" just like raygoon, aren't you therefore opposed to unions? Unions are, IMO, a form of communism, ie, a community."

As practiced under communism and socialism, the "union" is just another mechanism to regiment the worker.

As practiced under capitalism, the union is a labor cartel to drive up the cost of labor by restricting the supply thus assuring that the laborer gets a living wage and is not exploited. Having control of the supply of labor gives the union its bargaining power with the corporation.

Only if we select good candidates that have good ideas beyond getting elected. Our party platform should have the good ideas alrady in it. The people may not respond to "vote for me, I am a neat guy". I think we need our own "Contract With America" which was wildly successful for the Republicans in 1994.

When I took high school Civics back in 1956, I was told that political parties were collections of ideas that united people behind the candidates of the parties. I don't see that much anymore. on either side

17. I'm seriously going to vomit.
We need our own Contract with America? We? What do you mean, "we"?

This kind of non-productive scolding makes me ill, and people who are on are side don't generally talk like this. Please take your "Kerry doesn't stand for anything" and any other memes you're planning to spring on us back from whence you came.

Hey mopaul, toss me a torch!!! (ouch!)

25. Unions..
Are probably most responsible for jobs and industries shipped overseas

Restricting supply never works.
We are a capitalist society - which is basically the efficient allocation of resources within the free market. By restricting supply - labor is not priced by the market. When the market is inefficient - the market finds efficiency.

Next thing you know - the factory is moving to Mexico. When it comes to money - people watch theirs first.

My brother in law is a big rank and file supporter. When he hired someone to cut his lawn I asked him if he hired a Union Crew.

His answer: "Nah- those guys wanted too much money."

Many specifics there.

Admittedly he has not spent $100 million promoting his plans yet.

after we get him out of the WH.

Start with this:
Do the OPPOSITE of everything he has done.

19. You know........
I can't believe it's taken us this long. I have anticipated this since the election that wasn't. It makes me sad that I feel this way. But it goes to show what can happen if you're not paying attention. In 2000, this would have never crossed my mind.
