An insidious Repuke dirty trick to derail Kerry?
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 07:52 AM by TruthIsAll
So, Kerry asked McCain to be his VP?

If there is one lesson we have learned by now, it is this:
QUESTION EVERYTHING YOU READ OR HEAR IN THE REPUKE-CONTROLLED MEDIA.

FACT: Kerry is lengthening his lead in the polls
FACT: Only Diebold and CS&S can beat him.

So, why does he need McCain?

If it's a Rove dirty trick:
a)Kennedy looks weak to the democratic liberal base and independents.
b)Wesley Clark and Edwards will wonder what the hell is going on.
c)Bush will look good when McCain endorses him, after rejecting Kerry.

If it's not from Rove:
This may be a move to keep McCain's name out in front of the mediawhores to prepare HIM for the REPUBLICAN nomination. Cause they know Bush is TOAST.

Here is how the propaganda works:

1)Kerry insisted that his discussions be kept private, so this "Democratic official" does just the opposite?
Kerry has no control of his staff.

2)Kerry was afraid of rejection by McCain if he asked him outright?
He is too weak to be president.

3)And Fournier makes sure to mention Clinton, who "avoided service in the war."?
No mention of AWOL Bush.

4) Officials close to Kerry have REPEATEDLY reached out to McCain's advisers in hopes of persuading the senator to join the ticket?
The desperation is palpable.

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. John McCain has personally rejected John Kerry (news - web sites)'s overtures to join the Democratic presidential ticket and forge a bipartisan alliance against President Bush (news - web sites), officials familiar with the conversations said Friday.

Kerry asked McCain in the last two weeks to consider becoming his running mate, but the Arizona senator said he's not interested, according to a Democratic official who spoke on condition of anonymity because Kerry has insisted that his deliberations be kept private. A second official involved in the discussions confirmed the account and said the Arizona senator made it clear he won't change his mind.

Both officials said Kerry stopped short of formally offering McCain the job, sparing himself an outright rejection that would make his eventual running mate look like a second choice.

1. But, they said he was CRAZY, right?
Remember? McCain is CRAZY. They told us so. So it must be true.

2. Simple solution
The Kerry campaign can deny this. However, I suspect that they can't and what they thought was an oh-so-clever campaign ploy will blow up in their faces.

3. I suspect they think this whole thing is too silly for words
as do I.

This whole thing has "right wing wet dream" written all over it. I'm amazed that there are so many trollers on DU who have been pushing this idiotic idea for months.

7. Agree ,Just silliness !
I dont know or have I ever understood this obsession with McCain ? I do not think ,as silly as the idea is anyway ,that McCain would be a plus to Kerry .How many votes of long time Dems would be loss to gain some repuk votes ,should Kerry make such a stupid decision. We dont need McCain's help to beat bush ,what we need is to keep educating the public to the mess we are in ,having this pResident in the White House.

4. Exactly...
... I'm so tired of the armchair campaign managers explaining what a stroke of genius this is. Bull. If Rove floated this, Kerry would have had to forcefully repudiate it before it got legs.

He didn't. What conclusion can one draw?

5. Don't agree
By reaching out to McCain, Kerry appears to be willing to put partisanship aside and shows a willingness to work toward ending the ideological divide that has so drastically reduced the effectiveness of our govt. The majority of American people are politically moderate and are not comfortable with partisanship. They'd rather have a govt made up of people who put the country's interests ahead of the narrow ideologically dictated agendas that hold so much sway these days.

Kerry tried. And he's a good man for having made the effort. This will not hurt him, and could turn out to be a benefit.

8. If that is what really happened...
... then my respect for Kerry just dropped 50%. "Reaching out" to the fools and morons who created the mess our country in is not leadership.

At this point, the race is not for Kerry to win but for Bush to lose. It would take a miracle for Bush to pull this out now. Why resort to such extreme and disingenuous measures to srape up a few votes?

Kerry will win this race. He doesn't have to resort to this sort of tactic. And if his true plan is for "bipartisanship" and to "include" the perpetrators in the planning and implementation of the solution, well, I'd rather just stay home. I want a leader, not a pussy.

11. Oh yeah?
>>> The majority of American people are politically moderate and are not comfortable with partisanship

That is a statement that I doubt very seriously you can back up with any real research. The country is polarized. The "non-partisan" middle is very small, certainly not a majority.

6. Did it ever dawn on anyone
That with an ad naseum number of 24-hour news services, thousands of newspapers and more internet sites than hospitals, that they people who keep bringing the McCain thing up are desperate to have "news" to tell?
I don't think this is an insideous plot, but rather, a bunch of lazy journalists who ignore "real" news, for tabloid, sensational news. That's why this crap doesn't die.

9. It would die
if the Kerry campaign would DENY it. They can't because it was a "brilliant" cynical ploy to try to appeal to gadfly swing voters who are now getting the spin we are seeing. Why anyone couldn't see this coming is beyond me.

12. This Is Dynamite...Careful
Yep, looks like someone's found a seam to get to Kerry for his and McCain's toying with the VP nomination. This is a game that is silly, but one that will get tongues wagging, which is Rove's game right now.

Remember, this goon need to distract. Any day he keeps Iraq or the economy (other than the crap he manufactures) out of the news, the better it is for his boy. How many times do we need to get ourselves in a lather about some crap he or his operatives blast fax to generate phony news? Gore stepped in it repeatedly and Kerry got caught at first, too...with the Medals stuff. Looks like Kerry's gotten smarter and doesn't reply, but this one's already starting to take on legs.

Yes, McCain could coming off looking like he's riding to Bushyboy's rescue...and might just do that...one reason I thought even toying with his name was dangerous, and now it could be proving true.

Yes, Kerry should get out front now and shut down any talk about McCain being considered as VP, and then say nothing more until the convention. What good does naming a VP at this point serve? Other than to keep the dwindling Dean, Edwards, Clark & other supporters involved, a majority of Democrats would vote for a protozoa as VP as long as it meant removing this regime.

16. I have found out that when you say: "What??? I don't think McCain
should be MENTIONED by Democrats as a serious consideration to be Kerry's running mate" people here go nana banana calling the questioner dumb for not understanding the nuances of A BRILLIANT political move by Kerry.
I do not consider this a brilliant political move. But since I have decided to vote for Kerry as a WBWCDB (Warm Body Who can Defeat Bush) I am not going to QUESTION this issue here in DU anymore. It is not worth my breath or DU's thread space.
But Kerry must be careful. "Appealing" to the middle might backfire, alienate his base, and provide more ammunition for the RW to say there aren't enough good Democrats so Kerry has to pander to the RW to be able to get a decent running mate.
And trying to create even the impression of a ticket that seems designed to represent a different party (RightMiddle Party?) as a single party in America... well we already have a push for a single party, the RW party.
AGAIN, my vote is not in contest. I WILL VOTE FOR WBWCDB.

17. Hasn't McCain denied this happened?
It is very stark when you deconstruct the implications of the story, enough so that it does make one wonder. The story sounds so bad that if it is true, you have to wonder how Kerry could have been so misguided as to not see how this would look. OTOH, Rove, et al are some slimy, trick-fucking, amoral carbuncles.

21. Whatever...
I have no opinion about whether Kerry asked McCain if he wanted to be considered. Quite possibly he did. I don't know if this is coming from Rove, but I don't think it matters. It's a big nothing. It's true that Kerry isn't coming on strong yet, but nothing, absolutely nothing, has blown up in his face as yet. I can't imagine why this would. No implosions, no huge revelations that anyone cares about and when denials are called for they're perfunctory and unconcerned. As they should be. He only gets his dander up about damned lies that are attributable. Again, as it should be. Rumors about VP choices don't rise to the level of damned lies. They're just rumors and of no concern to sensible people.
