<snip>

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A senior U.S. military officer acknowledged Saturday that the Americans have not achieved their goals in Fallujah despite the agreement to end the siege of the Sunni Muslim city and turn security over to an Iraqi force.

Ten U.S. Marines and hundreds of Iraqis were killed during the three-week siege of Fallujah, which was launched after four Americans working for the Blackwater USA security company were ambushed, killed, their bodies mutilated and hung from a Euphrates river bridge.

<snip>

Hard-line Islamic leaders ahve reasserted their power in Fallujah, 30 miles west of Baghdad. Some were active in defending the city against the Marines and have profited by a perception _ both here and elsewhere in Iraq _ that the Fallujah fighters defeated a superpower.

-more- (but not all that much)

What's interesting is that this right-wing newspaper is carrying a story that doesn't try to portray the occupation as being 'in the bag and going swell' (my words). Usually they are telling everyone here in e-i-e-i-o-ville that the bush* administration has obtained all their objectives and things are just hunkey-dory. I wonder how this got slipped in?
