Why Do Threads Get Locked

I went to fix a bad link and the thread was locked

1. for the same reason the sky is blue

light entering the atmosphere mostly scatters amonst the particles of oxygen and nitrogen...blue light, however, refracts through these particles, and the sky appears blue
