***edited to say - I think it should be. It was not in the orignal version, and I believe it makes a much more powerful statement without it.

I pledge alliegence to the flag,
Of the United States of America,
and to the republic,
for which it stands,
One nation,
indivisible,
With liberty and justice for all.

4. The pledge existed for a VERY long time ...

... before "under god" was added.

Personally, I think the mindless exercise of reciting this every morning is a detriment to education.

Morning patriotism is fine, but they may want to vary their readings every day.

11. He asked for--and received--last rites.
So some would say that he died a good Catholic boy...

14. With the war in Iraq, the record deficits, the number of unemployed
and the fact we are not respected around the world, it should be a minor issue!

I voted yes but was torn because I wanted to vote minor too. With all of the other problems, I care more about those then the pledge.

15. Yeah, Baby
48% yes.

As a long-time member of Americans United for Sep. of Church & State I admit it's not at the top of my legislative agenda, but I also remember being a little kid in the midwest in the 1970s, being about 8 years old and getting my ass severely kicked by several other kids for saying I was an "atheist" when asked my religion (after they asked me what that meant, of course) and I also remember always mumbling "numbner froppz" around that part of the pledge.

There's no way it belongs there- historically, constitutionally, or any other way you slice it.

The phrase was not put in until the McCarthy era. The nation survived it not being in the original version and we can survive the tribute to Joe's paranoia being left unsaid.
edit: typo
