I listened to a bit of it and coulnd't stand listening to Paul Martin doing everything in the book to avoid answering a question. This is not new behaviour - I'm a supporter and I can't get a straight answer out of him.

Layton sounded like he was way out in left field and Harper sounded like a used-car salesman.

1. No clear winner

Liberal Leader Paul Martin pounded away about a $50-billion "black hole" he sees in the budget plans of Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, and Harper repeatedly referred to the money lost in the Liberal sponsorship scandal. Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jack Layton insisted his party was capable of forming a government, and attacked both Martin and Harper over their policies and records

Martin held his own imo

2. I thought Harper won.
If anyone sounded like a used car salesman, it was Layton.

3. Harper succeeded in hiding his real intentions re health care with
vague and misleading answers....He's slime....They all jumped all over Martin and he was hardly allowed to finish what he was trying to say....Layton interrupted everyone constantly and came across like a little crowing rooster....My hope is that there won't be enough people voting for NDP to allow Harper to slip in as the winner...It's sort of like the Nader problem in the U.S.A....

Nope.

We have a healthy multi-party democracy that is much more representative of Canada than the US model is of America. The Liberals may claim the centre, but not the left, except insofar as they've appropriated NDP policies to retain power in a minority parliament. Well, fine. Maybe we'll get some progressive legislation again if they're humbled. We certainly will if they're replaced by the NDP as the natural alternative to the Conservatives.

The Conservatives will not form a majority. They don't have the numbers, and without a breakthrough in Quebec or sweeping Ontario, they won't.

Look no further than Paul Martin if you must have someone to blame for a Liberal defeat.
