Do you realize how evil McCain is? It's amazing how conservative he is... |
|
Okay, first of all he is hell bent on killing the National Endowment for the Arts... he supported Ashcroft and Helms. http://yumademocrats.blogs.com/starky/2004/06/mccain_out_to_e.htmlSecondly, he is a MAJOR enemy of the unions... constantly voting against them.... he voted YES to a Nat'l Right to Work Law that fortunately failed in 1996. http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?vote_id=1060&can_id=S0061103He is pro-life, pro-school vouchers, pro-Bush, pro-privitization, how is this guy able to keep his moderate image? He likes to brag about the Raygun legacy...wtf??? It is beyond me how he can work for Shrub after the way he got treated. It's one thing to attack him personally, but the family is off limits...I would be furious...I am greatful for his service but, I can't figure the man out....

I know so many Democrats that were hoping McCain would take the VP slot with Kerry!
McCain likes to grandstand, so he will dribble out some liberalism to the appropriate audience, but his voting record shows he is no liberal.

5. Not me I have trouble with his ego and know he is a Republican |
|
I do not think he is a right wing nut. He is an old time Republican. He also seems to be likable and from what I have read he always has been one of those people that sort of shines just because he is who he is.

3. Because the press and the Democrats have... |
|
... furthered his image as a moderate. He only seems so to them because he's not a raving fanatical lunatic like DeLay and his ilk.
That McCain could be considered a running mate of Kerry, even hypothetically, is an indication of how far to the right the Democratic Party has become under the influence of the DLC.
It's also an indication of why they have lost so many voters over the years. The further right the Democrats go, the greater the number of non-voters they create, and how much more difficult it becomes to woo the swing voters.
Harry Truman said it best: "Give the voter a choice between a Republican and a Democrat who sounds like a Republican, and he'll choose the Republican every time."
We have far too many Democrats who sound like Republicans, these days. Far, far too many. Forty years ago, Paul Wellstone would have been an average Democrat. Now, because of the right wing's constant braying against anything and anyone they don't like, he's a radical leftist.
This country has changed over the last forty years, and not for the best, and not because the Democrats put up the good fight and lost, either. They began to become like their opponents, in order to blur the voters' vision.
That has lost them an incalculable number of non-voters.
I'd love to see an authentic, comprehensive poll of about ten thousand non-voters in this country, just to see what they think. I'd bet a steak dinner to a doughnut that they'd say that the party of the people, the Democrats, doesn't give a shit about their needs and wants.
If Kerry's people are chasing after McCain because of poll results, shame on them for being so stupid. The votes are where the polls don't count.

9. Moderate in comparison to whom? |
|
Traditional Republicans who oppose big government & out of control spending? Or, today's Republicans who are borrowing & spending us into oblivion?

Ask that of DeLay or Hastert or Bush or Frist. I'm not the best person to answer that question. :P

4. The media canonized him as a "straight talker" |
|
and it stuck. He is portrayed as a war hero who says what is on his mind. Trouble is people are so caught up in his image, it seems few pay attention to his words and his votes.

I wouldn't want him as Kerry's VP either. But that being said I would rather be fighting him and his type of repub. then the neo-cons we are dealing with now. McCain might be wrong policy wise but at least he fights fair.

13. He's anti-gun. For some, that makes him an automatic Democrat. |
|
apparently they don't realize that the VAST majority of gun control laws were put into place by Republicans, with the only notable exception being the 1994 crime bill.

15. Who thinks he he is moderate? |
|
I thought we all knew he was obviously conservative, but not neo-conservative. It's shameful that he supports Bush but he can't be lumped in with the assholes in this administration. He stands for traditional conservative values which are quite different from liberal values but also very different from neo-con values.
