NY DAILY NEWS scoop on Moore/O'Reilly confrontation at F9/11
Heated exchange at 'Fahrenheit'?

Give Fox News Channel star Bill O'Reilly credit for even attending Monday night's lefty celeb-glutted premiere o f Michael Moore 's "Fahrenheit 9/11" - even if he walked out of the 110-minute Bush-bashing movie halfway through.

Only last week on his syndicated radio show, O'Reilly likened Moore to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels - author of the "Big Lie" theory of political communication.

-snip-

The flack added that O'Reilly was simply confirming Moore's booking on his Fox News show next week and that O'Reilly had already asked "Fahrenheit 9/11" producer Harvey Weinstein's office for a screener.

Again, problematic: A source close to the movie says no videotapes are being given out to anyone under any circumstances.

Surely not a little white lie!

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/203263p-175365c.html

So let me get this straight, O'Reilly sits through half of the film and then claims he is going to get a screener (which does not exist). So when he has Moore on his show next week and jumps all over him it will be without having seen half of the film. Just an FYI this is very unacceptable, if you interview someone in regards to a film you must see the film, O'Reilly did not see the film. I am glad Moore is doing the show and when O'Reilly slams him he can throw it back in his face that he did not see the film. Full disclosure: from 1990-1996 I was a field publicist for a lot of studios and if you did not see a film you did not get an interview. . .simple as that.

Why shouldn't he take advantage of that free publicity for the
movie. It's not like O'Reilly is going to out-debate him or anything. Moore can take care of himself. Remember what he did at the Oscars. The nominees were told not to make political comments during their acceptance speeches, if they should win. Instead of "following the rules" like everyonw else, Moore must have decided, "fuck it, if I win, I'm going to say something." And then he did. I will always respect him for doing so, and I don't see O'Reilly as posing any threat to him.

5. Remember the last line from "Chinatown?"
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 07:55 AM by punpirate
"Fergit it, Jake, it's Chinatown."

Substitute appropriately: "Fergit it, Mike, it's O'Reilly."

In the dictionary, under "stooge," it says, "see Bill O'Reilly."

On edit, why has no one noticed the remarkable similarity, in facial features and demeanor, between O'Reilly and Joe McCarthy?

15. Guts? Nah, if the old gasbag had any guts he wouldn't need to
edit his shows and lie to make his point presentable.

He's just an aging TV hack. Before he plugged into the braindead conservative hate market, he was a TV tabloid guy. He's a joke.

7. I actually heard o'reilly tell this story on his show yesterday, slightly
differently.

He said the thing about the movie starting 45 mins late, he had a previous commitment, he had to slink out halfway thru, he runs into Moore in the lobby, Moore sez where ya goin, bill sez he had a previous commitment and the movie started 45 mins late,PLUS that he knows how it ends, Moore sez "I'll send you a cassette" and o'lielly says "thanks, if you do, I'll watch it."

Is he a chronic liar?

12. The version you cite seems much more plausible than O'Reilly
"walking out" in disgust or protest. If for no other reason than the ability to say that he had seen the movie, I would expect O'Reilly to stay for the entire film, if he could. It helps both of them to extend "professional courtesies" to each other--Moore gets free publicity for his movie, and O'Reilly gets a "hot" segment for his show. As another poster in this thread pointed out, if they both play it right, they both win. I have no difficulty believing that the conversation you describe actually took place.

9. Hype + Hype = Hype
Of all people, I'm one of the last to defend O'Reilly, but in this case, this is the hype machine spinning on all sides. For Moore, getting O'Reilly to wag his tongue to his millions of kool-aid drinking viewers is not a bad thing. It's controversy that had made Moore who he is today and the bigger the confrontation the better. No doubt, Moore's spoiling for O'Reilly and visa versa. If both are smart, both win.

O'Reilly's in a dellusional battle to be the "top dog" at both his network and on hate radio. He sees that Rush is soon to fall (indictment) and has growing contempt for Hannity, thus he wants to be the loudest mouth on the block. He knows he got some of his biggest viewing when he went after Rosie O'Donnell and getting Moore's attention will mean more viewers (or in his screwy world...more people who "love him"). In his goofy mind, getting the biggest shots at and from Moore rather than Rush or Savage or whomever makes him more "important". And he may be right in the dank world known as Right Wing media.

Moore wins by shaking a few loose leaves off the tree. Earlier I saw a post here from someone who said they knew a 20-something who went from being a Repugnican to a "flaming liberal" (whatever that is) after seeing Moore's movies. I think there will be some who will finally see the 2 + 2 in this movie and damn right the Wingnut world is scared that these people may actually come up with 4.

Which leads to the final thing...this movie, while we all are looking forward to it, means nothing if its just "our types" who go to the theaters to see it. This is preaching to the choir. Moore has stated he wants this to be a wake up call to others out there...and the way he reaches those people is through goons like O'Reilly & Hannity and stirring up the shit.

Moore's a master at promotion and hype...and at times will go over the top...but this is when he gets the attention and is most effective. Watch his machine go into full gear in the week's ahead.

Cheers!

10. True. . .I think sought to exploit O'Reilly's walking out. . .
. . .but I doubt O'Reilly planned on getting caught. So before O'Reilly can proclaim he walked out Moore goes to the press and lets them know O'Reilly walked out. Moore importantly Moore can difuse any O'Reilly criticism by saying O'Reilly walked out and since O'Reilly claims a prior committment he cannot claim he walked out in protest. LOL

14. Ahhh - but why did O'Reilly really walk out of the film?
I mean, what inner psychological dynamics were at work that propelled him out of his seat, into the lobby to offer a lame excuse, and then out the door?
