2. You caught that point quick old friend
They literally walk the other way when they see me... Almost like the Fundie recruiters did back in my college days...

3. I don't know
I have one right wing friend who does't like to talk politics, but several others who I have long discussions with. But they are mostly libertarian conservatives rather than religious conservatives, so perhaps that makes a difference.

4. they don't like to talk to anyone who
1. doesn't explicitly agree with them
2. dares to question any of the issued "speaking points"
3. has the ability to critique the issue rather than the person discussing the issue.

5. It has to do with arguing style
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 09:22 AM by Loonman
I can shred most Republicans because they can never stay on topic.

I also creamed an asshole manager at my work using the same methods. I knew exactly how the dickbag was going to argue his point: by bringing up unrelated shit and setting up several strawmen, but my Big Boss was in the same room to mediate the dispute and I'm pretty sure I made the Mgr. look like the vindictive bastard he is.

I had to tell him to stay on topic no less than 5 times in the entire 15 minutes the meeting took place.

Morons, you can't beat me.

19. Personally, I don't argue, but then again they don't give me...
the chance. One friend says, you always have an answer for everything. That's when they stopped talking to me. Another friend said, I don't know about politics and don't want to talk about it. I said good, just go pray about it after it happens.

6. Are these the same guys who...
back in November of 1994 were in your face, chuckling "I feel your paaaiin, hehehehehe"?

It's payback time.

9. Trumad, Are These Wingers Un-Convertible?
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 10:00 AM by cryingshame
I prefer to keep a moderate face AMAP for just this reason.

It'd be great to reach out somehow.

After all, the goal isn't exterminating the opposition. What we gonna do?

10. You are absolutely right.
The goal is to convert them, not exterminate them. I purposely engage right wingers in debate, and it's all the better if I have an audience (usually there are some undecideds in among them). It's hard to beat the facts, and it shines out when you know your shit.

12. I tend to be fairly
...in your face to my Republican acquaintances. I simply don't understand how anyone, especially a woman, can vote Republican. I come from a long line of liberals and frankly, liberals are just more intelligent and better educated. I proclaim my dislike for W. quite a bit, from wearing my John Kerry t-shirt to wearing a new one that says "Somewhere in Texas, a village is missing its idiot". Takes a lot of guts actually, as I live near Richmond, Virginia, but I am tired of people sneering the word liberal as if it were an obscenity.

13. i lost a pretty good friend over politics
haven't spoken a word to him in 6 months. don't miss him at all. got sick of him screaming at me like i was an idiot. loved to bicker and insult liberals and would call me and take it all out on me, until one day we were talking about reagan and i said i'd like to piss on his grave and the guy was floored into silence.

very effective, using their own tactics on them. they hate that.

16. Sorry about your friend, I think...but LOL about the
Reagan retort!!

My head is in the same place these days. I just can't hold my peace anymore. If anyone wants to start a political discussion, especially from the repug position, they had better fasten their seat belts 'cause I'm going to let 'em have it!!

No more passive, "shrinking away" crap. This is life and death and safty we're talking about now.

Matter of fact, I do manage to insinuate politics into a good many subjects/events in my everyday life. At the doctor's office, the dentist, the bank, the lawyers...places like that. Haven't had an opportunity in the grocery yet. I work at home so that doesn't count.

17. maybe it's because...
they think you're a big meany, going around busting up their uncritical world view.

It's hard enough for them to concentrate without you adding more cognitive dissonance to their simple minds... :nopity:

20. I've noticed I don't like to talk to right-wingers, either
But even though I don't like talking to walls, I find myself giving them sass every chance I can get.

Even people I don't know. For example, I was standing in line at the pharmacy last week, and some old dude in front of me gets his drugs and then says "Thank you George Bush."

To which I replied, out loud "I prefer to say 'Screw You George Bush.'"

I just can't keep quiet about the little tyrant anymore, not even about little things like the old dude getting his prescription filled.

Don't give 'em an inch.
