Bush is too pessimistic about Iraq
"We can expect more attacks in the coming few weeks. More car bombs, more suiciders, more attacks on the lives of iraqi officials"

That grumpy attitude will get us nowhere. We need optimism.

2. Did he really say "more suiciders"?
I don't think he's nearly as bright as the media would have us believe...

3. There's a difference between optimism and realism.
And in this case, Bush is unfortunately right. As long as the status quo holds re: the occupation, the status quo will hold re: the attacks. It's going to take more than optimism to change the situation in Iraq.

7. Very true.
They're trying to capitalize on two weeks of "Reagan was such an optimist" BS by trying to morph Bush (even further) into Reagan.

They can't talk about issues because they don't have any, so I guess the optimist/pessimist thing is the best they can come up with.

What I do find hilarious about the whole thing is that a recent study showed that Bush has run almost exclusively negative ads about Kerry, while the majority of Kerry ads have been positive. The negative Bush ads talk about how bad things would be in a Kerry administration.

Yet, Kerry's the pessimist?!? Yeah, right!

4. This is a public relations technique

It's called getting the bad news out first.

In any upcoming critique or debate of the diastrous policy in Iraq, shrub or his shills can say, "Well, the *resident told us this was going to happen, it comes as no surprise, as a leader he is demonstrating resolve, we are not going to be bullied by thugs and terrorists, we are not going to cut and run."

This is how you mitigate a disastrous foreign policy failure. If he told us it was going to be real bad, then how can one complain when its real bad?

It's the equivalent of saying, I never told you it was going to be the Rose Parade. But he and his thugs did.

On edit: In any case, one cannot be too pessimistic about Iraq.
