Petition Encouraging the House to Investigate Tom DeLay:
US Rep. Chris Bell of Houston intends to file a complaint against Tom DeLay with the US House Ethics committee (formally the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct), asking them to investigate Tom DeLay.

The Ethics committee has not launched a serious investigation in seven years. There has been an unofficial "truce" between the parties to look the other way.

If you believe the Ethics committee should investigate these serious charges please join us by signing the petition at:

http://www.drivedemocracy.org/petition/ethicsdelay/

According to the Houston Chronicle, Bell's complaint will include the following charges that DeLay:

Improperly accepted campaign contributions from Kansas-based Westar Energy Corp. in exchange for help securing a special exemption from federal regulation.

Funneled illegal corporate contributions, including from Westar and others, through the Texans for a Republican Majority political action committee to GOP candidates for the Texas House.

Solicited the assistance of the Federal Aviation Administration to track more than 50 Texas Democratic lawmakers who fled from Austin to Ardmore, Okla., in 2003.

If the allegations against DeLay are true, his disregard for basic democratic principles is matched only by his disregard for the law.
As the Republican majority leader, DeLay will try to strong-arm committee members to kill an investigation. Let's tell committee members they should put their responsibilities to the Constitution ahead of their fear of Tom "The Hammer" DeLay.

Please join us in asking that the Ethics committee mount an investigation that is as serious as the charges against DeLay.

Copies of the petition will be delivered to US Rep. Joel Hefley, (R., Colorado) Chairman of the House Ethics committee.
