WashPost: Bush on Religion

(snip)
Bush on Religion

At yesterday's news conference, Bush was also asked to respond to Ron Reagan's eulogy of his father on Saturday.

"Q He said that politicians should not wear religious faith on their sleeve. And a lot of Republicans interpreted those remarks as being critical of you and your position on stem cell. I'd like to ask you about that.

"PRESIDENT BUSH: Whether or not a politician should wear their -- I've always said I think it's very important for someone not to try to take the speck out of somebody else's eye when they may have a log in their own. In other words, I'm very mindful about saying, you know, oh, vote for me, I'm more religious than my neighbor. And I think it's -- I think it's perfectly -- I think it's important for people of religion to serve. I think it is very important for people who are serving to make sure there is a separation of church and state."

When are people going to realize that the current president does not have the mental capacity to construct a coherent though, let alone conduct a democracy?

1. Also:
same doc:
Speaking from the White House via satellite to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, Bush said: "Life is a creation of God, not a commodity to be exploited by man."

Kinda like you don't exploit the soldiers on the front lines of the wars of vanity that you have started? Munging felcher.

2. The chutzpah of using Bible quotations
Here's another, from www.irregulartimes.com http://www.irregulartimes.com/secretprayer.html

{snip}
The Bible is very clear in what it says about the proper way for Christians to pray, stating in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 6, verses 5-6,

When thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

3. Can anyone on DU translate this? I just don't understand what Bush
is trying to say.

Is he saying "I am NOT wearing my religion on my sleeve" by quoting from the Bible?

4. He has no idea what he's trying to say anymore.
Just wait for those debates! Bush has gone totally incoherent. He's like that SNL character who tries to use words in the wrong context, making himself look like a moron in public, but he still thinks he's doing a good job. I don't remember which cast member played him...

Anyway, the point is that this is how Bush sounds when the media does not clean up his quotes for him.

Three predictions for the debates:

1. Bush will stop responding mid-sentence, just like he does here.

2. Bush will try to quote scripture that does not have any relevance--even in the most abstract sense--to the question at hand.

3. Kerry will make him start cursing on live television.
