2. what the hell kind of a question is that?
didn't the 9/11 commision just come out and say that this was not the case?

shouldn't the question be: Do you agree with the 9/11 commission's report that al qaeda and iraq did not cooperate to attack the u.s. on 9/11?

12. But Dick and Bush say they did have connections
Whom to believe?

I think the question should be:

Do you agree with the 9/11 commission, which Bush did not want in the first place, that there was no connection between Iraq and al Qaeda or do you believe Bush and Cheney even though they have lied about every other reason for going to war?

But maybe that would be taken as a little partisan.

32.  Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, CIA, FBI have ALL stated publicly
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 02:39 PM by Zinfandel
NO connection.

ALL have said in televised speeches and interviews or in Q & A... Iraq, (Hussein) had nothing to do with 9-11.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Ashcroft, the CIA, the FBI ("the White House men's room attendant") have all stated and admited, there was NO connection between Iraq and al Qaeda.

And now the "9-11 commission has stated the same.

Now maybe the idiot republicans and the ignorant...

Will see it was all bullshit, the war in Iraq, no WMD, no "imminent" threat...

They just wanted the oil, wanted Iraq back in our monetary system, wanted US bases, wanted billions for corporations, (Halliburton, General Electric, Carlyle Group, etc.) and wanted a war against an unpopular fuck like Hussein, to make Georgie look like a hero, at election time.

Oh how things have changed!!!!

14. freepers think the whole commission is bogus and they are
all "librul commies." Hence, they don't believe it. So, if you look at the CNN poll, 69% of those voters are "librul commies"

I kinda feel sad for them. Those people are living in a bubble. It will burst in November and they'll have a very rude awakening.

15. From Washington Post (Sept. 6, 2003)
The Post poll, conducted Aug. 7-11, found that 62 percent of Democrats, 80 percent of Republicans and 67 percent of independents suspected a link between Hussein and 9/11. In addition, eight in 10 Americans said it was likely that Hussein had provided assistance to al Qaeda, and a similar proportion suspected he had developed weapons of mass destruction.

Remember that study? Something like 65 or 70% of Americans as a whole thought there was a connection, but over 90% of people who get their news from Fox.

(Did they believe it, and so were drawn to the network that agreed with them, or did the network alter their opinion? Chicken or egg?Hm.)

13. Bizarre -- the headlines answer this question!
So essentially, 31% of Americans think that the 9-11 panel is full of it, and that they, the 31%, just "know," in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

I suppose it's too much cognitive dissonace for them. They'd have to believe big Daddy Bush and Uncle Cheney are big fat liars.

I too used to think my elders were infallible... then I grew up...

17. What I Absolutly Can Not Understand
Is this, it was Bush who lied to the American people and told them that there was a link, and that is where the original belief came from. A month or two ago Bush came out (rather quietly) and said that there is no link.

So if George Fucking Bush doesn't think there is a link, and had said so, how on earth can the people who he first convined there was a link continue to believe it? I know that that asshole lieing bastard Cheney continues to claim there is a link, but I don't know of anyone on earth who believes a word he says, other than George that is.

35. done and side comment
our resident bush supporter (RBS) mentioned the Saddam/Bin-laden connection to me - RBS said that Saddam and bin-Laden met and that proves there is a connection...

me: but they also reported that Saddam told Bin-ladent to get lost

RBS: but, they met, they talked so there is a connection

me: (pulled up photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam on my computer....) Saddam also met with Rumsfeld, and what's this? My oh my, lookie here they are even shaking hands... Rumsfeld must also be a terrorist, ummm... if Rumsfeld is shaking hands with Saddam, and Saddam met with bin-laden --- ooops there's the Rumsfeld/Bin-laden connection so can we conclude that Rumsfeld helped Bin-Laden pull off 9-11?

RBS: but, Saddam help finance terrorism

me: mmmmmmmmmmm (pulled up old article about Reagan sending weapons to Saddam, plus articles citing training of Bin-Laden in Afghan-Soviet war).... looks like old Reagan was a terrorist too.... he not only sent weapons to Saddam, but he also trained Bin-Laden. So it looks by your reasoning that Rumsfeld AND Reagan were terrorists...
and Rumsfeld now works for Bush, and I believe they talk quite frequently... so doesn't that also make Bush a terrorist?

RBS sputtered, picked his jaw up off the floor and walked out of my office

40. hate to sort of disagree
but according to the 9-11 commission hearings (listened to it on the radio) one of the witnesses did say that they did meet ONCE long ago and Saddam rebuffed Bin-Laden

granted our intelligence agencies and current "mis"-leadership haven't been all that accurate in their allegations -- so I take the 'report' of the meeting with a few tons of salt

the main point is NOT did Saddam and Bin-Laden ever meet (even once) -- but rather how many people will believe that they did meet and hence the connection, and how many of the GOPer choir will be singing this spin?
