We have to give 60 Minutes lots of credit for their anti-Bush attitude
They have really assisted to get Dem authors and their books out to the public. Several episodes have dedicated the entire hours to anti-Bush books and it looks like Dan Rather is going to get an hour with the big dog and he rated his book a 5 on a scale from 1 to 5.

1. Seems more like an attempt at balance to me.

The rest of the media is still sucking Bush's dick, so maybe 60 Minutes looks liberal by comparison.

2. then again, they did spend several years doing absolutely nothing
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 04:21 PM by thebigidea
they had one pathetic piece on Halliburton that recieved a paltry followup.

This administration would've been a goldmine for them: the WMD, Enron, etc.

Where was this "anti-Bush attitude" you speak of?

3. Not really
I give them credit for recognizing newsworthy books.

I give them credit for telling the truth, which they are generally better at than the rest of the GOP-dominated media.

I give them credit for being responsible and fair.

But an "anti-Bush attitude"? No way. First of all, they don't have one; second, it's far better to do the journalism right (which naturally appears like Bush bashing) than just to have an anti-whatever attitude, like the Rush/O'Reilly/Hannity/Coulter/Snow/Hume axis of evil has mastered.

4. Give credit for doing their job?
The media should have been anti Bush from the moment he stole the election.

I have a very low post count too. I just began posting and it hadn't crossed my mind, until I read your post, that a low post count might mean something. Didn't YOU have a low post count once? I don't see anything in the posters message about 60 minutes that should make you worry about a Freeper. It makes ME afraid to post anything too because I have a low post count. It's not a very friendly welcome if you think about it. DU is a great place but people just joining shouldn't be made to feel like they're bad until proven good. IMO.
on edit: This person might be a freep based on some other posts. But I still hate that a low post count, in and of itself, raises suspicions with so many.

Just don't post freeperish, disruptive flame-bait, or trolling threads, otherwise expect people to think you're a freeper.

Also, it helps if you don't try to say environmentalism is a religion.

21. Yeah, that's the thing about freepers.
They're ridiculously stupid. So if somebody posts something ridiculously stupid chances are they're a freeper. It's only circumstancial evidence... but nine times out of ten...

23. Where do you see any statement that the accusations of
trolling relates to post count? Personally I regard the original post as very suspicious given the sweeping claim that 60 Minutes is anti-Bush. If it were so they wouldn't have bounced the Edmonds story.

There is just so much dirt around that it's easy to do the stories that they're doing.

Interviewing popular authors about their books is not anti-Bush. Have they interviewed Michael Moore yet?

25. Can't wait until Bush's stem cell position breaks hard.
Bush turned stem cell research into a political football. Now people are starting to realize what a jerk he is. Stem cell research has nothing to do with abortion. It has everything to do with sparing people from Alzheimers, Parkinsons, spinal cord injury, etc. People are starting to realize that Bush played dirty politics with something that could have spared them or their loved ones an incurable disease -- for no reason.

It is now generally agreed that Bush's statement that there were 78 stem cell lines was a scientifically ignorant (and politically convenient) major exaggeration. There ended up being around 11.

America is falling behind in critical research for no good reason. When the cures for these major diseases are found, they will be found by foreign countries, not American researchers.

Bush played dirty politics with stem cell research.

He's toast when mainstream Americans figure it out.

30. I don't think it's anti-Bush.
They just gave time to the new hit books that came out. There happened to be a rash of anti-Bush or even balanced (Woodward's two books) books out in the last few months.

It didn't hurt them that their publishing house published some of those books, either.

From DU rules:

Do not publicly accuse another member of this message board of being a disruptor, troll, conservative, Republican, or FReeper. Do not try to come up with cute ways of skirting around the spirit of this rule. If you think someone is a disruptor, click the "Alert" link below their post so the moderators can deal with it. Unfortunately, it has become all too common for members of this message board to label anyone with a slightly different point of view as a disruptor. We disapprove of this behavior because its intent is to stifle discussion, enforce a particular "party line," and pre-emptively label a particular point of view as inappropriate or unwelcome. This makes thoughtful and open debate virtually impossible.

Democratic Underground is a "big tent" message board which welcomes a broad range of progressive opinions. As such, you are likely to disagree strongly with many of the comments you see expressed here. Please do not take these differences of opinion personally. The simple fact that someone disagrees with you does not give you the right to lash out and break the rules of this message board. A thick skin is usually required to participate on this or any message board.
