NBC News: Rumsfeld may be war criminal
They just ran a segment saying that based on the interperetation of the law, Rumsfeld could be guilty of war crimes. Apparently he personally ordered a prisoner to be kept secret from the red cross.

Now what I don't get, is why a story like this isnt followed immediately by calls for resignations, impeachments, and prison terms. What the hell is going on when we can just mention war crimes in passing and move right along? :puke:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5226957/

(salient excerpts)
It’s the first direct link between Secretary Rumsfeld and questionable though not violent treatment of prisoners in Iraq.
-
In the military’s own investigation into prisoner abuse, Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba said efforts to hide prisoners from the Red Cross were, “deceptive” and a “violation of international law.”
-
Pentagon officials claim it’s entirely lawful to hold prisoners in secret if they pose an immediate threat. But today, nearly one year after his capture, he’s still being held incommunicado.
-
In fact, once the prisoner was returned to Iraq the interrogations ceased because the prisoner was entirely lost in the system.

Human rights critics call it a clear violation of the Geneva Convention.
-
Pentagon officials still insist Secretary Rumsfeld acted legally, but admit it all depends on how you interpret the law.

9. Because we have WEAK party leaders
The Repubs called for President Clinton's impeachment over complete garbage. Now we have a clear case where impeachment is the duty of the congress, and where are our party "leaders?"

As long as we remain the party of weakness, we will keep losing. Hot tip for some: the public agrees with us on the issues. They vote against us because they think we don't stand up for anything. Do we?

11. Why do you think they are pushing so hard to remain exempt?
US Pushes to Keep Its Troops Exempt From World Court

UNITED NATIONS - The Bush administration, facing a July 1 deadline when war crimes could be prosecuted by a new world criminal court, is stepping up efforts to exempt American troops and other US officials from the tribunal's jurisdiction.

Preparing for a battle likely to play out in the United Nations, world capitals, and the US Congress, administration officials and key Republican allies say they are pursuing a range of approaches to ensure the United States, which opposes the International Criminal Court, will not be subject to it.

All US ambassadors were told last month by Secretary of State Colin L. Powell to explore whether other nations were open to creating mutual agreements that would protect their ''nationals'' from the ''reach of the ICC,'' according to a copy of a diplomatic cable obtained by the Globe.

49. You damn skippy.
I said this the very first time I read a news story about the ICC: no matter how much bluster the administration pushes about fearing "politically motivated retribution", the most parsimonious explanation for their feverish rush to be exempted from war crimes prosecution is that they know they are or will be guilty of war crimes they would be prosecuted for.

It's just that simple, and it amazes me that Joe Sixpack -- who instantly concluded O.J. Simpson was guilty when he took off running -- can't see the same principle at work when the White House becomes the White Bronco House, is beyond me.

21. the Patriot Act..........

bush, RICE, cheney, rumsfeld, and powell have commited FELONY VIOLATIONS of the U.S.A. Patriot Act.

Fabrication or misrepresentation of intelligence data on terrorism, (Iraq and WMD in Iraq), is a FELONY CLASS violation of the U.S.A. Patriot Act.

The Law - H. R. 3162 - U.S.A. Patriot Act
TITLE VIII-STRENGTHENING THE CRIMINAL LAWS AGAINST TERRORISM

SEC. 801. TERRORIST ATTACKS AND OTHER ACTS OF VIOLENCE
AGAINST MASS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. (9-11)

" ... conveys or causes to be conveyed false information, knowing the
information to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt
being made or to be made,to do any act which would be a crime
prohibited by this subsection ... "

Prosecute bush with FELONY charges as provided for in the U.S.A. Patriot Act.
Force bush's lawyers to attack the Patriot Act.
Only the destruction of the Patriot Act in a court of law would provide relief to bush.
The damage done to bush and his cabal and the Patriot Act by using this law against its creators will be immeasurable.

If we rid ourselves of bush, the Patriot Act remains, tempting the next President to ascend the ladder of TYRANNY with the Patriot Act.
I assert that destroying the Patriot Act is more important than getting rid of bush.
FOCUS ON THE FELONY.

And that's what we have: a government that is vomitting all over the world. Well, we had best take care of our own, eh?

Anybody know how to do a citizen's arrest? I suggest we posse up ride into DC, and arrest the criminals residing therein.

50. Nightline (ABC) started a series Wednesday on torture
The program was very thorough. They tracked memoes, they interviewed people, they named names as high as they could (Rumsfeld, absolutely), they got into the business of the posse of JAG lawyers flying to New York to have a private meeting with a prominent human rights lawyer because they were so upset at the overthrow of decent military law. Ted Koppel said unequivocally that any American school child could tell you that America does not condone torture, but that the president and his handlers (I mean advisors) were redefining both the term and the laws that cover it.

Ted said that while it may not be appropriate to have a debate about an issue like torture in the midst of an attack (I think he was saying that when the Towers are falling it's necessary to get the info regardless) that NOW is a very GOOD time to be debating whether and why the US government would ever sanction torture.

At that point he announced that the debate begins tomorrow night, Thursday.

Be there or be square, and may the Goddess of Liberty bless the Nightline crew.

Hekate

for 8 fucking years and they have lied their way through this damn war and NOTHING has stuck. They should ALL be indicted as war criminals and serve the rest of their lives behind bars. Will it happen? If the Democtas on the Hill get off their asses and start SCREAMING about this, maybe. I'm hoping something is going on behind closed doors and the Dems are just waiting for the right time to make their move.
