Does anyone know where the source for Ashcroft's comment about Calico cats being of or from the devil? I've seen it mentioned here often and would like to know where it came from.

As a result, almost all calico cats are female (XXX) and almost all male calico cats are sterile (XXY). Since cats were associated with witchcraft, and witchers were often accused of rendering men impotent, it's really not that outlandish that an overly devout Christian like Ashcroft could believe such a thing.
