Air Force Sgt. Marc Palmosina, (Gitmo) charged with 2 child rapings

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040615/us_nm/crime_halabi_dc_2

A key investigator in the espionage case against a Syrian-American translator at the U.S. Naval base in Guantanamo has been charged with raping and sodomizing children, officials said on Tuesday.

-snip-

During a break, Halabi's attorney told reporters that Air Force Sgt. Marc Palmosina, who had overseen the probe against his client, had been charged with raping and sodomizing at least two children, one as young as 11 years old, and with mishandling classified documents.

-snip-

The charges against Palmosina were filed on May 26 but only came to light on Tuesday. They also include "failing to safeguard some number of classified documents and/or failing to store some number of classified documents only in authorized locations."

Military officials could not immediately confirm if the documents in the charges were related to the case against Halabi.

1. I'm not generally in favor of the death penalty...
But if these accusations are proved true (in a military court, hopefully), then the sonofabitch should be Danny Deevered.

4. Danny Deever
Danny Deever
Rudyard Kipling

"What are the bugles blowin' for?" said Files-on-Parade.
"To turn you out, to turn you out", the Colour-Sergeant said.
"What makes you look so white, so white?" said Files-on-Parade.
"I'm dreadin' what I've got to watch", the Colour-Sergeant said.
For they're hangin' Danny Deever, you can hear the Dead March play,
The regiment's in 'ollow square -- they're hangin' him to-day;
They've taken of his buttons off an' cut his stripes away,
An' they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

"What makes the rear-rank breathe so 'ard?" said Files-on-Parade.
"It's bitter cold, it's bitter cold", the Colour-Sergeant said.
"What makes that front-rank man fall down?" said Files-on-Parade.
"A touch o' sun, a touch o' sun", the Colour-Sergeant said.
They are hangin' Danny Deever, they are marchin' of 'im round,
They 'ave 'alted Danny Deever by 'is coffin on the ground;
An' 'e'll swing in 'arf a minute for a sneakin' shootin' hound --
O they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'!

"'Is cot was right-'and cot to mine", said Files-on-Parade.
"'E's sleepin' out an' far to-night", the Colour-Sergeant said.
"I've drunk 'is beer a score o' times", said Files-on-Parade.
"'E's drinkin' bitter beer alone", the Colour-Sergeant said.
They are hangin' Danny Deever, you must mark 'im to 'is place,
For 'e shot a comrade sleepin' -- you must look 'im in the face;
Nine 'undred of 'is county an' the regiment's disgrace,
While they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

"What's that so black agin' the sun?" said Files-on-Parade.
"It's Danny fightin' 'ard for life", the Colour-Sergeant said.
"What's that that whimpers over'ead?" said Files-on-Parade.
"It's Danny's soul that's passin' now", the Colour-Sergeant said.
For they're done with Danny Deever, you can 'ear the quickstep play,
The regiment's in column, an' they're marchin' us away;
Ho! the young recruits are shakin', an' they'll want their beer to-day,
After hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

6. The problem with that...
...many people who were convicted of such abuses were later found to be innocent--not just by "reasonable doubt," but 100%, certainly, completely innocent. How can we risk the death penalty in these cases?

2. The military? Or this guy?
These incidents are not related to Gitmo and pre-date both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

I think if guilty he should be sent to prison for life, but even so I don't think this correlates to the authorized use of torture in Gitmo and Iraq.

5. It shows that the army does not do a good job of policing itself.
This guy's case is not related to Gitmo (Palmosina's) but that he was allowed to go to Gitmo when had been accused of raping children does not say much good about the army.

7. There's too much we don't know
We don't know when a report of these actions was made, or if any report was made at the time of the incidents. If an accusation was made at the time, I would agree with you on this.
