Just got attacked by a Repugnant-can. down at my pool.
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 07:40 PM by gore-is-my-president
I was talking to some people who who are sort of friends of mine in the pool. The husband seems to agree with most of what I say and the wife seems to be more Repub. We always talk politics - but are very civil about it.

Some old bag down at the pool was apparently standing there eavesdropping on our conversation and said to them "So has she converted you yet?"

We all looked at her and I said "What are you talking about?"

She said "I've been sitting here listening to your Liberal b.s. here."

I answered "Well if you're so informed then why don't you get in here and give us YOUR side. Do you have any facts or figures to disprove what I'm saying?"

Since she had nothing else to say she said "Why don't you stop breaking the rules of the pool?" (I was drinking out of a mug that was on the side of the pool).

Then she said "Well no-one is going to like you if you talk about that stuff at the pool."

My friends said "What are you talking about? Everyone likes her here - she's got a lot of friends." We then continued our talk. (She then got up and left the pool in a snit.)

She basically made herself look like a complete idiot.

1. Tell her that its impolite to eavesdrop
Typical repub, all talk, no action. And please, quit drinking out of that mug.

4. Thanks! Thank God I had a retort for her.
Ya know how sometimes you can't think of anything to say back to someone... This time - luckily I did.

The fact she had to resort to scold me for "breaking" some minor rule of the pool basically says it all. She had nothing else to say.

8. *LOL* I often find myself so stunned at others' audacity,...
,...all I can do is react with a blank look (my son says I do a "you must be from another planet" stare)*LOL*.

You obviously handled yourself far better than did she.

3. Intelligent conversation...
...is like kryptonite to Repukes. I have an "I Still Hate George Bush" T-Shirt (www.tshirthell.com) that I occasionally wear out to bars in New Orleans. One night, while a friend of mine and I were drinking, I noticed that one of the guys playing pool kept giving me dirty looks. Finally, after about 20 minutes or so, he worked up his courage and walked over to me.

Repuke: Excuse me.
Me: Yes?
Repuke: You got some kind of problem?
Me: Eh?
Repuke: That stupid shirt. Something wrong with Bush?
Me: Well, now that you mention it...

Which segued into a fifteen minute speech listing in detail many of the atrocities committed by Shrub since he was selected in 2000. Apparently, he was not expecting me to be intelligent, as he just kind of grunted and said, "yeah, whatever" and walked away.

I noticed him later that night as he was walking out of the bar with his friend. He was talking smack about how he was "Just about ready to smack that dude if he said one more word to me!" His face turned red when he noticed me sitting in the booth right next to him, and he quickly left the bar without further incident.

12. And the comeback is usually about
Monica or Bill Clinton's penis. One of my husband's coworkers is still in a snit over Jimmy Carter and demonizes him whenever possible, even though he's shown up every Repugnantcan Prez in retirement.

15. I think I've got the husband close to being converted.
I showed them both the following article. He seemed to quite struck by it and said "Wow. Bush is in trouble. That is really saying something."

He wants me to send him some more info.

10. my father...
Still seems that it's better to lie about a war than to lie about sex...

Of course part of that is b/c he refuses to believe that the asshole lied to the world when there are no wmd's and no al queda links in Iraq.

Just blind worship. Right Wing morons may as well just deify Shrubya, because to them, he can do no wrong.

11. Nicely handled
"Do you have any facts or figures to disprove what I'm saying?" Simple, direct, turns the spotlight back on the attacker, and with the preface, "Why don't you give us YOUR side," makes it crystal clear that the other person doesn't have a side, just an attitude.

Keep your facts handy and rehearsed. You, too, can best Republican tools and fools.

13. All you have to do is ask for details on anything they say
All they have are talking points. Go in depth on a subject and their arguement falls apart EVERY TIME
