Check this out..Bush to screen all americans for mental illness
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 09:15 PM by vetwife
this is what he says......But what he says and what he does is always the opposite. More Faith Based Stuff so people cannot get access to mental health no mater what he is saying. And what is this screening stuff written up in the British Medical Journal? The screening is in the article.
British Medical Journal | Jeanne Lenzer | 19 June 2004

http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/328/7454/1458

New York - A sweeping mental health initiative will be unveiled by President George W Bush in July. The plan promises to integrate mentally ill patients fully into the community by providing "services in the community, rather than institutions," according to a March 2004 progress report entitled New Freedom Initiative (www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/newfreedom/toc-2004.html). While some praise the plan's goals, others say it protects the profits of drug companies at the expense of the public
................................................................

He wants screening for americans regarding mental health issues.
I personally think it will be another unfunded mandate but the Nazis played around with people's head and this is outrageous. He is the one who needs help.....He is driving us all crazy but People in Hell will get ice water before the Shrub has his Dr. Frankensteins on me and my family ! We wouldn't be so depressed if he were out of office.

9. Consumer is the latest phraseology to define a user of services
It was in place before Bush took office. Lots of things to get the tinfoil hat out for, I'd keep it on the shelf for this one.

6. What do you suggest?
We lock the mentally ill back up in institutions? Bush's solution is still heavy on force, but at least they aren't calling for instutionalization again.

And Regan doesn't get all the credit. A liberal group called the Bazelon Center started a lawsuit to free mentally ill people from the hospitals and called for community based treatment. Reagan was happy to comply with the closing of the institutions, thus elminating a New Deal program, but didn't do the community based treatment part. That's how all people ended up on the street and many in jail.

So now Dubya's proposing a community base program ... okay, a little progress. But the problem is they want to force medication compliance. This literally means a health department worker coming to their homes every day to give them, and make sure they take, medication. This can be abused and there is obviously potential for a slippery slope. In fact there are testing going on right now for implants of psychiatric medication.

Now, here's where it gets tricky. The medication has nasty, awful side-effects and often cause long-term health problems like liver damage. Can we really force American citizens to take medication that might be harmful to them? And is is moral, right, and corrent that they have it implanted in them so they have no choice? Or is it good because "really sick" people must take their medicine? Who gets to define who is "really sick"?

It's all much more complicated than it looks, and the problem is no one likes mentally ill people so few care about what happens to them.

12. Please...He needs to get the log out of his own eye

HE isn't doing a thing but pushing drugs...He is used to dealing in drugs, he is the Godfather of Crime. The No child Left Behind Act was a farce..schools are hurting and you think he is doing something good here? The man couldn't do anything right if his life depended on it. the Presidential Task Force of Disabilities and the ADA is in jeopardy and I know, because I am active with Senator Harkin on some of these issues.
Nope all he wants to do is find a way to control everything. There is nothing good here. Clinton had a program that worked called Americans with Disabilites and worked with Dept of Labor Becky Ogle..I was in Washington with Becky. Faith Based Programs and we know how much the church wants to give up that money...They don't ! He wants to privatize everything. The man can't ride a bike and you think he can head in a right direction?

I don't know how to make that pic larger but that is my husband with Peter Yarrow and me with Senator Harkin at Vice President Gore's residence in 2000 at the ADA 10th Anniversary. Wish I knew how to make that article bigger !

7. is he screening himself?
Dubya is the most insane person in this country if you ask me! Anyone who is responsible for all of these deaths and won't even own up to it is out of his mind! Bush needs to check his own mental state before anyone else's.

10. "In the community instead of institutions" means ...

* Dumpsters
* Hot air vents
* Appliance boxes
* Shopping carts

Just like it did in Reagan's day.

11. Follow the money: a friend of BushCo has a mental-examination company?

If that is the case, we will be examined very carefully and very expensively.

16. how long before homosexuality is classified a mental illness?
yeah, I know that the APA, etc. says different, but neither real science not intellectual argument has ever prevented BushCo from doing exactly as they please . . . watch for it . . .
