Will "Fahrenheit 9/11" have anything WE don't already know
The two GD threads about Moore exposing the media got me to thinking. I don't want to sound like a know-it-all but I told my wife that aside from the embedded footage from Iraq I would not be surprised if the film had little that news junkies like ourselves don't already know or are familiar with. I am sure many parts of the film will be new and surprising to those who don't follow events like DU'ers do (read:have a life ;-) ) but I suspect that most of the movie will be nothing new to many of us here.

I am still going to see it in the theater at least once but I wonder if conversations after wards will be "Oh my GOD what was that about..." and many of us will be able to fill in some of the information for our less informed friends. Moore can't go into great detail in a film, he is surely just trying to start the dialogue.........our role could be to finish it off with details and where our inquisitive friends might find out more.

Two Threads about Moore exposing the media for laziness and whoring

2. Probably not
Left wing news junkies have already dug up most of the pieces. The new stuff will be the footage of things we've only read about.

The real show is going to be the audience reaction, and for that reason I'll see it in a theater, rather than wait 6 months for the DVD to hit the rental shelves. I especially want to people watch during that infamous seven minutes of video at the Booker School when Bush showed us all that either he's incapable of doing anything he isn't told to do or he's the coldest, most heartless piece of shit the world has ever seen.

That will be worth the price of admission.

3. You might see a lot of footage you've heard about, but never seen
In the commercial, for example, there's a bit of the 'Now watch this drive' clip. We've all heard about that one, but I personally never saw the actual clip before.

11. Agrees, we KNOW it all, but we haven't seen all the film/video.
But we know lots of stuff that most other people don't know and SHOULD!

5. does anyone know during the 7 minutes of silence or whatever
if Michael shows a split screen with what was happening at the exact time at the towers while he sat there doing nothing?

6. I've been wondering that myself.
Yesterday I was discussing it with my mom, I told her that I'll probably won't learn anything that I don't already know. Then I told her that most of the stuff that I've been going off about the past three years (Saudi Arabia/Al Qaida - Iraq - the economy - corporate scandals, etc...) has come to pass and that she should listen to what I have to say instead of trying to shut me up all the time! :grr:

However, as annoying as my mom can be, she is coming around and intends on seeing the movie - she'll learn.

7. It's not the content, it's the venue
I for one am looking forward to hearing and seeing the audience reaction to material I'm already pretty familiar with. If the Letterman audience example is any indication, the show around me will be even better than the one on the screen. Can't wait!

8. I think the reaction, for those that are informed about 9/11, will be...
the visual aspect. As in most things, reading the written word is one thing but seeing those words put in visual form has a whole different impact, like the torture photos. Many of us read articles about the torture but seeing the photos put it on a whole new level of horror, imo.

9. Probably not new
we've been discussing a lot of it here at DU for the past three years. But it will be very nice to have what we've been saying be out in the open in such a big way.

I do think it will provide a validating experience for us news junkies who have been dismissed and demeaned the last three years. The general population will be forced to discuss it instead of keeping it at arm's length.

10. after just seeing Bowling for Columbine this weekend, yes and no
maybe not in the general context but it is a great song for the choir. Just like the "pictures" of the Abu Graib pictures brought to light the horrors in Iraq as the three thousand page report hadn't been able to, so will the images of this film.

watching Bowling for Columbine helped re-invigorate me about asking the questions and engaging people. The film will be a tool for us to communicate to other un-committed voters. This movie will never change the mind of a die hard Bushie and we should waste our energy on them. There are millions of never before voters that we can and must reach to form a truly compassionate, progressive and hopeful movement in this country.

12. Unfortunately detials don't convince
A good story does. The power of his film is that he has put it all together to make a story.

13. I am glad you said this UP
"Moore can't go into great detail in a film, he is surely just trying to start the dialogue"

I've had a few well informed friends (MIHOP'ers) who are worried Moore won't go far enough and won't include enough info we DU'ers know. I've been telling them he doesn't have to, and in fact, I hope he doesn't. Everything I've seen and read about F911 seems it will be the right mix of "Oh my God" without scaring people so much they can't bring themselves to believe what they see.

We have had 3 years to absorb how evil the people in charge are. Ma and Pa Kettle from Knockneed, AL may be getting their first dose. It is enough for me that F911 start the dialogue - it is up to us to keep it going.

14. there's a segment on recruiting tactics
that will be news to me. It's been nearly 20 years since my own experience with a recruiter, I bet they've refined their techniques.
