Who does Bill Clinton sleep with?
Under other circumstances, this would be none of my business, but if he's going to sell his book on the basis of being a "reformed sinner," I'd like to know if he's actually reformed. If he's going to be honest, he needs to say whether he continues to have sex outside of his marriage. All this "We spent a day a week in counseling" stuff needs to be backed up with action. He wants to build his legacy, fine--he needs to build it on his personal values. I admire him as a legislator, and if he wanted to write a book about the laws he got passed, then he should have stuck to that. But if he wants me to admire him as a man, I need to know that he has learned from his mistakes. He has invited me into his life by writing this book, and I would like some honest answers. I want to know if he's left out any current affairs.

I'm sorry, I don't follow...needs to because? He's not the President...he's not a public figure right now...why does he need to explain anything that he does right now? Now as it was back then, it's between him, Hilary and Chelsea.

33. If we can ask about Bush's drinking
We can ask about Clinton's sex life. If Clinton is going to be some kind of leader in this party, and it turns out he's still lying, then he's going to to damage to Kerry's campaign. If some reporter discovers him in an affair after this big, public claim of reformation, then that's going to set the party back. I think Clinton's sex life is the main reason we have Bush in office now--Gore should not have had to waste effort making up for his president's mistakes.

And aren't you less-nosy-than-thou people constantly bringing this up about Bush's drinking? Is he still drinking or not?

the answer IS NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS, nor mine.

Answer me this: since when has sexual purity ever denoted great leadership skills?

As for pecadilloes v alcoholism, Clinton's activities didn't affect his job performance. We have eons of evidence that alcoholism does affect job performance. So yes, we should know about that because we taxpayers are paying his salary.

51. Actually, we CAN'T ask Bush about his drinking.
We can't ask him about his alleged cocaine abuse either... the Bushes don't answer these kinds of questions. They have deemed such questions to be none of the American electorate's business.

Now, that being said, I do find the President's current level of sobriety to be extremely relevant to his ability to handle his position and office.

But that's just me... but there's no point in asking, because Bush isn't answering. He's not answering any of our questions, to be perfectly frank.

And, even if The Clenis is still having extra-marital affairs, I sincerely doubt such a revelation will "bring the party down." But you can continue dreaming... it's probably Bush's only hope of actually becoming one of the legitimately elected Presidents.

102. we talk about Bush's drinking because
it has obviously affected HIS THINKING. Duh!

On second thought, I give him too much credit. He killed too many neurons, or what few he had in his inbred brain, through drinking. So regardless of whether he's still drinking, the damage was done long ago.

And BTW, Bill's sex life is not the reason Chimpster is in the WH. If Bill could have run again, he would have WON! And Gore did WIN! In case you forget, certain Extremes stopped the counting and awarded the WH to Mr. Entitled, the poster boy for affirmative action for the white, wealthy and well-connected.

Lastly, if you're so concerned about Bill's exploits, could it be you'd like a little fellating but as with so many repukes, no one wants to do you?!

i consider it a personal thing between him and his wife. i think he is a good man based on what he does and has done overall with his life. and the reason he mentions some of this in his book was because it turned into a public issue with right wingers trying to get him out of office over it. and he talks about many other things in his book. it's the media which focuses on that one part. just as they did when he was in office.

52. Clinton's lies can damage Kerry's chances
Regardless of how we may feel, the public judges the Democrats based on our attitudes toward Clinton. If Clinton turns out to be lying again, many will turn their backs on Kerry, whether that is fair or not. If you want Bush out of the White House, it seems to me you would care if a leader of the Democratic Party was caught in one more big lie.

And, Clinton wants a legacy. Carter has built is legacy on personal integrity backed with public service. If Clinton wants my respect, he needs to look to Carter's example.

And I think people keep bringing up the first Bush's affairs and Neil Bush's divorce as being relevant. I sense a bit of hypocrisy on this list.

73. So, don't respect Clinton. Who cares?
The vast majority of Democrats, which include the majority electorate which will place John Kerry in the White House, respect Bill Clinton, and likely always will.

I don't honestly care if Clinton hasn't earned your respect. Don't vote for Kerry, if Clinton's penis offends you so much. It doesn't make a damn bit of sense, but arguing with folks like you is, in the words of the New York Times, "mind-numbingly boring."

And I'm sure Chimpy would trade his legacy for Clinton's any day of the week. :D

I daresay much of the public judges Repukes on their attitude toward Bush 43.

So if, that's the yardstick, your yardstick I might add, then we, the Democrats, ahead.

is not a legislator. Those guys in Congress are legislators. And speaking of Congress, as long as we're looking at private lives, lets make sure all the Congress are completely open and forthright about their sex lives if they are going to judge Clinton on his. Also the Supreme Court Justices and while we're at it the media as well.

I think it's pretty unfortunate that this stuff is still an issue.

Why should these things even concern people? We've really turned back the clock when it comes to sexual issues.

People have all sorts of relationships, let Bill and Hillary sort theirs out on their own.

All of this sexual scandal crap is just used by corporate politicians to distract Americans from a system that is rigged against them.

70. Clinton's legacy will be built on his personal integrity
I can't understand why questioning his marital fidelity is off-limits since he is currently in the process of building his legacy. I think it took a lot of chutzpah for Clinton to install a life-size Oval Office in his library--do you think there might be any jokes about the little room to the side? or cigars on the desk? How much worse will it be if it turns out he learned nothing from the Monica episode and remained a womanizer? How will that show up in his library?

If he wants my help in restoring his reputation, if he wants me to tell my friends that I still admire him and trust his reformation, then he damn well better not be lying to me now.

120. There would be jokes about cigars no matter what Clinton did
The Clinton Presidential Library will probably receive more visitors initially than the other presidential libraries because of curiosity about the man's sex life. However, I suspect that many of these visitors will soon be disappointed when they discover that the library contains mainly "boring" historical documents.

I also suspect that Clinton's current and future sexual behavior will receive very little attention from archivists and library staff. Instead, the Clinton Presidential Library will probably contain mostly materials from his presidency if the library's "Virtual Library" web page is any indication (see http://clinton6.nara.gov/ for more information) and will not contain a lot of materials related to his life after the presidency.

You need to know? "I need to know that he has learned from his mistakes. He has invited me into his life by writing this book, and I would like some honest answers."

That's what a batallion of right wing guest experts and their hosts said for ten years.

I'm going to advise Clinton not to tell you unless you tell us what you've learned from your 'imperfections' and any attempt to cover them up.

Come on, just fess up. Come on, just step forward. Come on, just admit it. Come on, just say your sorry. Those are some of the mantras of this batallion that any general would envy for its size and dedication and assassination successes.

You can start by telling us your age and providing a brief bio and litany of your purity. And let's not hear that you are ONLY a citizen and he is a former President.

Bush got a boost because of the positive press Reagan got for how he dealt with his problems after he was president. I admire Nancy for her stand on stem-cell research, an issue which she has been able to speak for because of the goodwill towards her husband. Clinton needs to build that same goodwill, and it won't happen if he's still lying.

What makes you state that he is trying to sell his book on the basis of being a "reformed sinner"? Has President Clinton, or anyone else other than some wingnut, ever said that he is selling his book on this basis?

Pre-orders of his book exceed 2 million. Isn't that great?

First, did vote for Clinton? Both in 92 AND 96? The relevance of this question will be explained at a later time, if and when you pass the troll test.

Second, if you did vote for Clinton in either election, please tell us why. Do you believe that he was a great Prez, DESPITE the witchhunt the right wing nutjobs subjected him to? If so, what do you think his greatest accomplishments were?

Last, but certainly not least, who did you vote for in the 2000 election? I REALLY want to know the answer to this, and hope that you will provide us with an honest answer.

126. I voted for Bill Clinton in '92 and'96
And I loudly defended him to everyone who denounced him. I left the Roman Catholic Church for the Anglican Church because the bishop allowed leaflets to be distributed which suggested true Catholics should not vote for him (an eerie prophecy of today's issue with Kerry). I met Tony Campolo, one of his ministers, briefly, and complimented him on his courage, and told him to tell President Clinton that I thought he was the most Christian president of the 20th century. I thought, and think, that he passed the most important and progressive legislation of the last 50 years.

But I don't have to condone adultery. And I don't have to admire a man who won't be fully honest. If he's going to lie, then don't write the book. If he has an open marriage, then he should be up front about it. He shouldn't be afraid of stating clearly the values by which he lives.

I don't want a man stumping for Democratic candidates in such an important election to be carrying baggage which will bring disrepute to the party. I can't imagine how he plans to represent the fight against AIDS in Africa if he has not shown his ability to control his own womanizing tendencies. I DON'T CARE WHAT HE DOES IN HIS PRIVATE LIFE--but if he wants to have a say in the public sector, his values should match his words.

131. Watch where you throw them "you"s!
I have never discussed anyone's private sex life on DU, but I'd like to point out for you a big distinction between what you've cited as examples of hypocricy and what your original post in this thread says.

In discussing Dole's Viagra or Bush's alleged gay sex trysts, people are pointing out the inconsistancy between what these individuals support as public policy and what they do in their private lives.

That's different from Bill Clinton's infidelity. He never proposed any legislation or public policy that suggested you and I adhere to his standard of sexual propriety. Not once.

Bob Dole and GWB and other republicans want to tell me to regulate my sex life in a particular fashion because it's "morally superior". If they don't govern their own libidos in that morally superior manner, then it should be known because it contradicts their positions on public policy.

The problem with your post is it assumes that Bill Clinton has made some sort of deal with you that he'll never have an extra-marital affair again in exchange for you supporting him. This would match your standard of sexual propriety and permit you to "forgive" him.

I'm not aware of any such deal. As far as I've heard and read, Bill simply expresses regret over losing the battle with his personal demons and causing pain to his wife and daughter.
