Vivendi Universal Games laying off... it's ugly here
http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/040621/media_vivendi_games_1.html

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The video game arm of French media and telecommunications company Vivendi Universal (NYSE:V - News; Paris:EAUG.PA - News) on Monday said it would cut 350 jobs in North America as part of an ongoing restructuring at the struggling unit.

People I've worked with for over 10 years are being shown the door. Freaking outsourcing and dumb ass upper management failures.

:puke:

1. I heard something about the head guy this morning
on the news...the main French guy was being indicted for something, I think?

So sorry nini. Be brave. I've been in that left behind position. It sucks to see them go, and it sucks to stay with all your friends gone.

Keep the faith,
FSC

6. What about you, nini?
Is your position safe?

I've been through one massive lay-off, and it was one of the worst days of my life. I remember the tears, the employees walking out with boxes of photos and plants and toys... I was one of them, and I didn't see it coming.

:-(

7. I have no idea
:-)

I suck at playing games - which is why I don't do the testing - it would take me months to do something someone else can do in a day. :eyes:

9. I was axed by Vivendi
When they shut down the Dynamix division of Seirra Online. It just didn't make sense why they closed down a healthy profitable company just so they could show a better bottom line for one quarter by selling completed products while eliminating all the costs associated with developing future products.

The really sick thing is that my project (Pro Pilot 2000) was only a few weeks from release when the whole company was axed. Unabashed corporate greed ruined the lives of several hundred families in our town that year.

10. It's been a long nightmare.. that's for sure
the buying up, selling, layoffs, etc... have really taken a toll on alot of us. Some of the people are just relieved at this point.

I remember when Sierra was hit hard before - it was ugly. It's too bad it was ever sold back to CUC or whoever that was - who can keep up anymore.
