Do you take action or are you a wanker? |
|
I'd like to point out (as I am sure you already know) that every time you post to DU, you are in effect writing a letter to the editor (of whatever publication.)
Now I know that not all posts on DU are suitable for letters to the mainstream media. But perhaps there is some media somewhere that would appreciate your views.
There is an incredible amount of energy going into posts on this Web site that could be leveraged and let people know that Democrats actually exist. With the ubiquitousness of the cut and paste capability, it would hardly be any work at all!
What I'm asking is, if next time you post, you think it is a point of view that could be appreciated beyond DU, that you share it with the world somehow.

1. This is a misconception that I think needs clarification. |

DU is a place for like-minded people to come to share thoughts and ideas, but just because someone is on DU does not mean that is all they do for progressive causes. In working with different campaigns and charitable organizations, I have met several other DUers in my community. One common trait I have seen in every DUer I have met is that they incorporate real action into their daily lives.
Personally, I think that DU spurs people to action. There really is no need to tell DUers to be more active.

because I get information I can use in the real world. I argue for the cause all day as a Union Rep. I like to share ideas and get turned on to articles that help me do battle every day. If you use DU as a tool in this way, it is very valuable.

7. I post on another forum that that is both conservative & liberal. |
|
It's hard. It's not moderated, so some posters in that forum are loco hatemongers (and they're primarily conservatives). You know the type, they call everyone names, from other posters to any public figure that hints at criticism toward *.
But I feel I've made some very good headway there. And it has exposed me more to the other sides' viewpoints, which has made mine firm up all the more. There are very few good arguments on the other side. It's based mainly on loyalty, pride, and "what's in it for me."

My husband and I are not wankers. We wrote a book, "The Boo, Boo Bush Book." It provides the average Jo(e) with 131 simple, easy-to-read, large print reasons to vote against Bush. So far, the feedback from our readers has been very positive.
We didn't write "The Boo, Boo Bush Book" for the money, although we wouldn't mind making at least enough to cover our expenses and to pay the artists who helped us prepare the book.
Our ultimate goal is to motivate ordinary people to vote for Kerry.
We have been using "The Boo, Boo Bush Book" to get people thinking for themselves and talking among themselves. We are volunteering for the Democratic party as much as we can and encouraging our readers to volunteer also.
Last Saturday, we held a book signing at a local coffee shop. One of the guests, an American citizen who grew up in Argentina, confessed that, after the disgusting 2000 election, she had decided not to vote this time. She told us that, after talking to us, she changed her mind and decided to vote for Kerry. That is worth our time and money.
If anyone would like to help us, please let us know by posting a comment on our website at www.booboobush.com. (We are looking for Boo, Boo Bush reps!) And, buy our book to find out what a useful campaign tool it is.

10. S'Yeah. like MY local fishwrapper would print anything *I* wrote... |

Hey, I don't even get freeper hate mail for the stuff I post here. Why would a ReTHUGlican O-and-O rag publish me?
From what the "Don't post anything that would cause Rush to Harrumph about us" crowd says with their consant drivel about "alienating the visiting Swing Voters" I'd say there's a bigger circulation here than for my local garbage-wrapper anyhow.
