Matt Drudge, oh the hypocrisy (and irony)

as is typical with this nasty little rightwinger propagandist, he's out to smear anyone with a shred of intelligence (and hate for bush) with quotes taken out of context, heavily biased sources, or unflattering pictures. this is a constant for him. he does it a lot with john kerry and hillary clinton. (and incidently a lot with howard dean during the primaries).

today, as some of you may know, he's posted a picture of michael moore from moore's high school yearbook. (don't go to his site, just take my word for it). obviously, drudge is hoping to embarrass and otherwise dismiss moore's credibility.

so i thought i'd just REMIND some of you (or show those who don't know) what matt drudge himself looks like (oh and while i'm at it, i'll post HIS high school picture as well)...

good thing we don't judge based on looks, eh? phew!



am i being immature, and playing "on his level"? of course i am.

does it need to be done to showcase his utter hypocrisy? you bet.

12. Drudge, friend of the lazy journalist

If there's some mud a journo wants to sling, usually against a target of the neocons, they just have to arrange for Drudge to hear something about it. They can do it directly (which is risky) or they can have a surrogate email whatever juicy rumor they want to start to one of the original media whores.

Drudge, unconstrained by traditional notions of integrity or objectivity (and a lot of other things), will happily run anything, the more scurrilous the better. He's got wealthy sugar daddies to cover him in case of libel suits (ask Sidney Blumenthal, victimized by a particularly vicious Drudge slur), and isn't overly troubled by anything resembling a conscience.

The lazy journalist, having successfully planted a rumor with Drudge, then gets to report about the "breaking news" on Drudge's website. Other news outlets, fearful that Drudge might actually break his second big story, quickly follow suit in reporting the "breaking news", and before you know it, the scurrilous rumor is pumped up into a real news story, based on nothing more than one person's vendetta siphoned through Drudge's mile-wide pipeline.

The fact that Drudge is right a little less often than a broken clock (think digital) is immaterial, and news outlets are anxious to return to his site like a dog to its vomit and regurgitate again whatever flailings he's sentencing poor, abused electrons to spell out.
