Why do perfectly rational men do stupid political tricks ? |
|
I'm thinking of Gephardt in the Rose Garden supporting the Iraq War. He will continue to support it because I have not heard him speak out against it one time. And John Kerry? He is a rational person. Why did he get behind such a dumbass idea? 90% of the people here at DU could see the folly of it - why couldn't these men? And they are not the only ones. But what comes over these people that they surrender all common sense and vote against the interest of the country and the Party?

1. Because at the time 9/11 had rendered us a nation of brain-dead |

flag waving sheep, and Kerry and Geppy were planning on running for President. In other words, craven political cowardice. The same type that, when a California court ruled the phrase "under God" unconstitutional, sent nearly every member of Congress scrambling and trampling each other to the Capitol steps to recite the Pledge in time for the evening news shows.

2. Because the anthrax envelopes appeared and the Democratic... |

...leadership got the message loud and clear. And so did everyone else in the Democratic Party.
When FratBoy stated that "you're either with us or against us", he was speaking in literal terms, IMHO.
Were you really under the false impression that we were still a Democracy when the Patriot Act went down?

3. I think alot information was withheld from the congress |

regarding the war, now thats not to excuse anyone. I lived in Texas under Shrub and i wouldn't authorize him to take my order at burger king never mind give him a blank check on going to war. this war was set in motion because the country was scared and pissed and this admin took advantage of it. Our fearless leaders in DC should have had some balls and dug harder and asked more questions but they didn't. So now we can either Have *, who made it legal to pack heat in Churches in Texas or we can take our chances on Kerry. I'll go with Kerry.
