I really have a gripe about * asking for AIDS $$$ for Africa! |
|
While I think it's a good idea to aid others (although no doubt I can just imagine Bush's "Just Say No to Sex" media blitz in Africa), it bothers me to no end that we have a health care crisis in our own country!
Not only do we have over 43 million people without health coverage in the US and seniors having to chose between food or medicine, but we have over 1000 people in the United States on waiting lists to get HIV medication assistance. A waiting list to an HIV patient is like a death sentence.
Realizing of course we could do both, but it bugs the hell out of me that the outpouring of so-called compassion the right wingers in this country has only extends to those who are outside our borders.

Our new Rethug governor just threw 65,000 people off Medicaid, many of whom won't qualify for Medicare for months. Some will die of various diseases but they don't care-it saves money.
First, we should offer a decent standard of medical care to our own poor, children and elderly. They don't give a damn about poor black women in Mississippi without HIV medication.
