Hannity & Colmes transcript: "Michael Reagan: 'I Saw Him as Dad'"
This was painful to watch. Perhaps in Michael Reagan's case, talking about this helps bring on the healing...he might also be better served by declaring a brief moratorium on media appearances.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,123524,00.html

"MICHAEL REAGAN, RONALD REAGAN'S SON: I'm doing OK. It's -- it's not easy. I mean, every day you think about -- you think about your father. And you miss him.

Even though those last, you know, couple of years he was bedridden and what have you, the moments we could be able to spend together, me just holding his hand or saying a prayer or what have you, meant a lot.

And it's going to -- it's going to take a while to finally, you know, put it all, you know, all behind me. But the fact is that, you know, like Father's Day, we're able to go up and visit him at the library with the kids. And that meant a lot to the kids, and, you know, that's the place where now we can visit.

And as Patti says, as Dad was ready to literally take his last breath, and he had his eyes closed for quite a few days. In fact, his eyes were closed on Friday night when we were there visiting. He opened his eyes for the last time, and he opened them and looked at Nancy and then just closed his eyes and died."

1. Bwahahahaha...What a joke...
This from the child who was called "schmuck" by Poppa. Who never really cared for him since he was born with Jane Wyman. Those tears at the funeral weren't real.....

4. In some book
Can't remember whose, there's a story that Reagan was speaking at Michael's prep school graduation or something, and he was milling around with the students, and he went up to one and said,

"Hi, I'm Ronald Reagan. Who are you?"

And the student replied,

"I'm Micahel Reagan. Your son."

Couldn't (or didn't want to) recognize his own (adopted) son.

5. What's the deal with that?
Most couples who adopt their children love them as their own. Any idea why this situation turned out they way it did?

6. I'm not sure where you're going with this...
My main point is that the guy couldn't even recognize his own adopted son - it's more of a comment that the Gipper wasn't the brightest sharpest tool in the shed even before Alzheimer's got to him.

No it may not be Alzheimers. He never really cared for him regardless of that one incident....

8. One suggestion ...
Mike turned out to be a conservative republican, instead of the normal kind. And there is a difference between Reagan conservativism and Taliban conservativism.

10. I read that Nancy was extremely jealous
of Raygun's former wife Jane Wyman and didn't want the children around from that marriage. Raygun's daughter Maureen (his & Wyman's) was older and she pushed her way into see her father on her own but Michael may have hung back and didn't go to see his father and his new family unless invited. Raygun himself was pretty much an absentee father where all the children were concerned.

11. i heard Reagan didn't tell Patti about Maureen
until patti was like 11 years old. maureen had been sent off to some boarding school i think. so patti didn't even know she had a half sister for a long time.

9. OW! My eyes!
No warning that I was about to see a shocking photo of a MORON!

They had this tool on CNN too - I couldn't watch. I guess BFEE has to (try to) balance out the two Reagans.
