The theater was sold out for all the showings until 1 AM, there was a line outside the theater and around the block for later seatings.
The crowd was wonderful, no disruptions, everyone applauded at the end.
Outside the movie theater various groups were handing out information and selling the Bush Deck.
It was absolutely amazing. My friend that I was with said that it might be the most imporatnt film ever made. I kind of agree. It's certainly not the *best* film ever made, but it might end up being the most important one. And if it gets Dubya out of office in November, if it finally breaks through the apathy of American viewers and the Fox brain static, Michael Moore should get a Nobel Peace Prize.

Where did you see F911? We're looking forward to a big opening here in California. See what other DUers are doing for F911 opening night: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x8384"If you have no enemies, it is a sign fortune has forgot you." - Thomas Fuller (1608 - 1661)

3. NYC, the Loews theater in the East Village |
|
It's playing there and in another theater uptown. At the one I went to they are literally running all-night showings. Someone who worked at the theater said that a whole crowd of people who got off work at bars at 4 AM showed up for the 5 AM showing last night.

According to Al Franken, the Carlyle group just bought Loew's theatres. So I would expect F911 to be pulled from those theatres pretty soon.

8. It opened Wednesday in NYC, limited release |

I saw it last Saturday at a critics' preview at the Crest in Sactown. Some wingnut jackass was bitching that it wasn't about Clinton. I had to hold my tongue.
You gonna see it at the Tower or one of the Century theatres? You'll love it, I'm guessing. I can't wait to go see it again on Sunday with my wife.

there weren't any at my screening...honestly the emotions were running so high in the theater, I don't think they would dare...at least I hope so. I am excited for you that you are seeing it Friday night!

I saw the preview the other day at the theater. When it ended everyone was silent - like they were holding their breath. I started to clap my hands and the entire theater erupted - whistles, claps, cheers. Cannot wait for opening night!
We are having voter registration tables outside the theater all day on Friday!

9. okay--warning: SOME SPOLERS |
|
I really liked the structure of the film, the first half provided the context for the second half, the first half was much more biting satire, and second half more horrifying and emotional.
Specific spoilers ahead
* * * * * * * * * * * * * The film starts out with the Florida election and the first 8 months, then the obscenely hilarious credits.
After the credits the film tackles 9/11 and Bush's response (Moore put a timer in the corner of the screen to show that Bush just sat there in the FL classroom for 7 minutes after he learned about the second plane, reading My Pet Goat)
Then there is a comprehensive historical overview of the Bush/Saudi ties, including Arbusto, classified details from Bush's National Guard records, Saudi inventment in the Carlyle group, the Saudi flights out of the country on 9/13, etc. He shows clips of the Taliban visiting Texas while Bush is the governor.
The film covers the bombing of Afghanistan, the build-up of the war and the invasion of Iraq itself.
For me the two most affecting moments in the film were the footage of the Iraqi woman whose house has been bombed and her family members killed, and she is screaming for God to avenge them, and the mother from Flynt who starts out supporting the war, and hating protesters, and coming to a different realization once her son is killed. She reads his last letter about how much he hates it there.
Moore makes really good points about how it's the poor, the American disenfrachized class that is recruited for slaughter in the "liberation:" campaigns. He shows misconduct by the GIs abusing Iraqi prisoners and frames it in terms of "immoral actions breed immoral actions"; the film on the whole is sympathetic to soldiers and gives many of them a forum to voice their disgust or at least ambivalence.
And the footage of John Ashcroft singing "Let the Eagle Soar," a John Ashcroft original composition is something to make you doubt your eyesight. Like, how can it be for real? But it is.

...the sound track of Let the Eagle Soar for a friend's pet cockatiel the other day. This bird is quite a connisseur of opera. It went just wild at Ashcroft's singing. Shrieking, jumping around.

Talk about a slab hanging from the hanging wall. Shiite. Nothing good can come from that song. Let the Eagle Shit would sound better, at least we might get paid.

mall in town. Something tells me that the patrons of the other stores are going to have quite a shock when the F911 viweres tsart showing up in various different anti-bush tshirts and start passing out anti-bush literature. It should be interesting.

I can't wait to see it this weekend! I loved "Dude, Where's My Country" and "Stupid White Men"! Moore has truly made himself the anti-establisment hero of the 2000's.
