|
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 06:59 AM by RationalRose
it opened in select cities yesterday (NYC was one of them) and broke 1st day ticket sales records. Reported on New England Cable News...no link yet but here is a link to the Guardian article: http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,12589,1246397,00.htmlhttp://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20040623005808&newsLang=en

3. Single day records for a particular theater |
|

Sorry, but this isn't all that impressive esp. since it's a press release from the distributor and avoids certain realities.
The release mentions that the movie broke opening day records for what it appears are the only "two" theaters in that particular geographic area that are showing it. If you had 8 or 9 theaters showing it, would any opening day records been broken at any theater? Using limited release openings to claim records were set is wonky reasoning at best.
Not dismissing the worth of the film and it may go on to set records for a documentary, but I just don't think the story accurately reflects any true representation of the nationwide public interest in it.
Honestly, did anyone really doubt the movie wouldn't do well in New York City?

5. You might be right. But it is clever marketing... |
|
... as it suggests high demand (but probably that high demand exists in reality, as the advance bookings for Friday do very well, also)
When the film was shown in Cannes, I read that it was shown in many small rooms, so it was sure that the rooms were all full.

7. Thanks for your propaganda |
|
Don't you think if the academy award winner of the largest grossing documentary of all time was showing his latest film in large rooms at Cannes that they would be full too?
You guys are so obvious...you must be very scared.

I did not with any word comment on the film itself!
This is no propaganda.
While I think that the film is very important, I think that the marketing is very proficient. Why should that be bad? I don't understand why this statement is propaganda.
