Let's see how he matches up against Cheney:
Jimmy Carter had a hugely successful military career. Cheney was too busy to serve.
Jimmy Carter is well respected internationally. He is a symbol of democracy and fair elections. Cheney is a symbol of democracy via prison torture and gunboat diplomacy.
Jimmy Carter has no scandal associated with him. Cheney, while CEO of Halliburton, circumvented the US embargo of Iraq after Gulf War I by using European subsidiaries to sell $50 Million in oil drilling equipment to Saddam.
Jimmy Carter has never broken sunshine laws. Cheney refuses to show minutes from the meetings he had with oil executives which led to the scamming of California, power outages, price fixing, Enronization, and the near collapse of California's economy in 2002.
Jimmy Carter has enriched the lives of thousands through his advocacy and participation in Habitat for Humanity. Cheney has enriched himself by remaining on Halliburton's "deferred compensation" payroll while serving as VP.
Jimmy Carter understands diplomacy. Cheney spits on diplomacy, "old europe", the United Nations, the State Department, etc.
Jimmy Carter has never been arrested. Cheney has umpteen undocumented drunk driving stops and several convictions.
I think it's time to restore dignity to the VP position. Carter for VP!

I think he is a great man and a better choice than most of those being considered. But I also think he is too old and I doubt he would want to be VP at this point in his life.

2. He may be older than Cheney, but he's a lot healthier. |

Unfortunately, while Carter is well respected outside the US, most people here associate him with "malaise" and his apparent ineffectual response to the Iranian hostage crisis. Damn librul media again.
