Bad news for Jack Ryan, Jeri stands by her accusations! I think he is out!

Hollywood actress Jeri Ryan says she stands by allegations she made after their 1999 divorce that Jack Ryan insisted she go to sex clubs during their marriage and asked her to have sex with him while others watched, according to a statement aired Wednesday by "Entertainment Tonight."

"Jeri's statement can be found in the original court documents and the truth has not changed in the last five years," a publicist for the star of "Boston Public" said. "We will not be releasing any additional statements, but Jeri does wish Jack the best of luck in his Senate campaign."

ON EDIT: wndycty prediction as of 9:23 AM (Central): Jack Ryan will drop out within the next 24 hrs. Read this Lynn Sweet piece!

He’s reassessing," the source said. Ryan canceled a trip to Washington today where he had planned to appear with Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (R-Ill.) and attend a fund raiser headlined by Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), the chairman of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Another fund raiser that had been set for this morning with House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) was also canceled when Hastert had a meeting at the White House. That cancellation contributed to the perception that the Ryan campaign was facing opposition from one of the top political leaders in the state.

The source said that Ryan was particularly concerned that the "tabloids are going after" Jeri Lynn Ryan, his former wife who alleged that Ryan brought her to sex clubs when they were married. Jeri Ryan is a television actress known for her roles on "Star Trek" and "Boston Public."

In Pike County in western Illinois, GOP County Chairman John Birch rescinded his invitation for a Ryan campaign representative to appear alongside local candidates at this weekend’s county fair and ordered no Ryan signs to be posted.

“We felt it might hurt the other candidates running,” Birch said.

I am not sure how he can stay in.

3. An excellent essay by Corrente this AM...
"1. The phrase that leaps out to me is "over her objections." I seem to remember other members of Ryan's party spending $70 million dollars promoting a slow motion coup against an elected President, and all over a consensual blowjob.
2. Ryan says he wanted to keep the divorce papers that revealed his wife's claims sealed to protect his son. I seem to remember other members of Ryan's party—like Rick "Man on Dog" Santorum, now raising money for Ryan—publishing the most salacious details possible over that consensual blowjob during their slow motion coup, even though there were children involved in that case too.
3. There's also that weird detail about "cages, whips and other apparatus." Remind you of anything? Say, Abu Ghraib torture, and the photos?
Remember Limbaugh's bizarre reaction to Abu Ghraib? Not the fraternity one—I mean the one that said the torture photos were no worse than pornography. ...
Do Republicans—especially powerful, winger Republicans—have a tendency to be turned on by "cages, whips and other apparatus"? Given the effects, both foreign and domestic, of their policies, it looks like they not only have the fantasy—they're living it. "

9. She has no choice but to stand by her accusations
These were made in a sworn document. To go back now would open her up to perjury charges. And the California repubs would seek it out, just to cover Jack-O's ass.

Now, according to jack-O, he said the judge struck those allegations as immaterial. So maybe it would not be perjury (remember "material allegations" from the Clinton-Leminsky drama) but it would be stupid...and I mean stupid...for her to recant.

15. Why would she recant?

You seem to be implying she regets the allegations now. I don't get that from her.

She seems serious that's what actually happened at the time.

But if she was of a mind to recant it would be stupid.

10. Good for her, standing up for herself against him.
He sounds like a control freak. I love the last paragraph of the article where Ryan is described as being in big-time denial.

16. I subscribed to christian repuke BB in Illinois to see their reaction
You can tell who are the paid PR people for the campaign.

"I know him personally, a man of integrity and honesty, the real thing." and that sort of stuff. I just hope that his ego takes over and he doesn't resign. He and the repukes will be the laughing stock.

Anyone catch the Sludge cite to the National Review story a few months ago - that Ryan was too good to be true? Well, now we know.

Hey, DUers go vote here

http://www.illinoisleader.com/opinion/sectionview.asp?s=112

The thing is if we vote to keep him on, he will flame out. If we vote to replace, they may get a real candidate (doubtful, but you never know).

19. If we win this seat now, is it a net gain?
I don't know Illinois at all - I know it is an open seat. At least I think it is. If the Democrat (Obama?) wins, will it be a net gain for the good guys? Or, is the open seat one that was Dem before?

Also, before the big forced sex scandal broke, who was leading in the polls?

Thanks

22. I'm not sure the problem is the sex clubs and all of that crap.
I think its the fact that Jack Ryan thought he could pull a fast one on his party and the people of Illinois by flatly refusing to tell us about these allegations.

It gives the voters of this state the idea that maybe Jack Ryan might have other things in his closet, so to speak. It's a question of credibility and trust.

23. I don't care about sex clubs, but...
But, the fact that he pushed her to attend & pressured her into doing things against her will is a big no-no in my book. If they both went willingly, I could care less. (Though, I'm sure the Religious Reich would freak out!)
