can you sense a "right-winger" before they even open their mouth? |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 09:07 AM by devrc243
A few months ago I noticed this older man in the gym who seemed to have an ego bigger than the britches he was wearing(ugh)...you know the one...the guy who tries to make himself known while working out. Well, while on the treadmill the other day, I heard him say,"I converted another one,"speaking about the lady next to him, "she used to be a Democrat and now she is a Republican." And then he went on to say, "now if I can change her into a baptist." WTF? He was so loud that I heard from about 4 machines over. I wanted to let out a big "fuck-you" but I would have been yelling over 4-5 people, so I let it ride.
He was someone who had "GOP" stamped on his forehead from day one, but only till the other day did he actually confirm it. What is it about them that is so obvious that they call attention to themselves before even opening their mouth...huge egos...

5. Righttard motto seems to be... |
|
"It's all about me". Anytime I encounter an egotistical blowhard who places his/her appearance before everything else and who thinks everyone is interested in his/her opinion, I assume that person is a righttard. I'm almost always correct in that assessment.

Did you ever the see the movie BeetleJuice, with Micahel Keaton?
Do you remember the scene where Beetlejuice shows up and he has, on his head, a small merry-go-round?
That sort of hari-do -- the one with the merry-go-round -- would be "mobile hair"
Something without that would be "immobile hair"
Hope this helps.

In the first place, repug men are BALD. Every single one of them is bald. So there is no hair to look at.
And all rgith-wing women dye their "hair". I mean they dye it until it really isn't hair any more -- it's more like brittle pieces of colored strings.
So there's really not much hair to look at.

I had ignored him up until about 2 weeks ago, however, one day I gave up my cross-trainer 'cause he has a "bad knee" so he could use it. The other machines were harder on his knees--as he puts it. I WAS giving him the benefit of the doubt and our conversations were limited to "how's your knee" ...blah, blah, blah,...so this was a disappointment, 'cause he was MORE blatant about it than I even originally thought!

but there are a certain subpopulation of right wingers who wear their ideology so proudly that they project it without saying a word.
Ironically some of them are like a "friend" of mine, who I like to call "vanity righties". Vanity righties like the image and the swagger and the bluster more than they believe in (or understand) the politics. They're remarkably easy to pick out in a crowd.

However I find it really difficult to believe that you can convert a human being to a neo-con. They're just born that way. It's as absurd as hearing a straight person say they converted another gay boy. Didja get a toaster oven with that?

Someone in a Lounge thread a few months back noted that conservatives don't understand Monty Python' humor. That may come from an unwillingness to think outside conventional boundaries.

42. Stereotyping works for repugs as well as it does for gays |
|
Which is, not at all. I remember a former coworker who had similar tastes in nonpolitical things as I did. One night my wife and I were over at his house for dinner, and in the middle of a conversation, he got up and fetched a copy of Chris Matthews' latest book and offered it to me. Needless to say, I turned it down, and after a few awkward moments of clearly stating how much I hated that pig-fucker (Matthews), we returned to our discussion of horror movies from Hammer Studios. Up to this point, I had no idea my coworker was a repug.
I kind of find this whole thread offensive. Using somebody's appearance to make a judgment on that person's political stance is no different from making snide comments about someone's possible sexual orientation or religious beliefs based on their looks.

58. no, there is a clear difference |
|
and it is right-wing republicans--not all republicans (but most) are the worst. Arrogant and full of right-wing fundamentalism. They are self-righteous and extremely judgemental. They think they hold all the answers and walk with an air of arrogance that reeks when they enter a room. When a person exhibits hate and intolerance, as they (right-wingers) clearly do, it doesn't even begin to compare to one's personal life-style.
I don't see the comparison. I don't walk in a room and say, "hmm, who are the right-wingers in here," however, usually it doesn't take long to recognize that certain "air" but if I was wrong I would be the first to apologize to myself:evilgrin:

46. I can spot them --- here's how |
|
1. People who live in cities and drive bright, shiney Hummers three blocks to the grocery store to pick up dinner are always Repugs. 2. People who drive extremely shiney new black cars with lots of aerials are always either druggies or Repugs. 3. Repugs usually have frozen, manic smiles on their face. 4. They're usually paranoid and it shows. Repug women around here are usually dressed in the most faux stylish outfits and really get their shorts in a bunch if you happen to beat them to the line at the grocery. Repug men ALWAYS have that insane smile and think they're invincible. 5. They always drive too fast and tailgate everyone because they're manic and so important that they need to get wherever they're going before you do. 6. Caught unaware, they usually look extremely worried and confused (cognitive dissonance at work). 7. The first words out of their mouth usually have to do with Clinton.
And finally ...
8. They're not simply extremely boring and repetitive, they're weird-crazy!

4. People who talk on cell phones while driving 55 mph or less in the fast lane of traffic are ALWAYS repugs.
5. People who stand in the checkout line at the supermarket, then get all of their groceries rung up, and THEN take out their checkbooks and begin to write out their checks, or who THEN start fumbling to find their credit card are usually repugs.
6. People who talk in loud voices on their cell phones in public places, and who, in so doing, share intimate stuff, are usually repugs.

The very first time I saw this man on TV I knew his self-righteousness was off-the-charts. There was something about him that spoke volumes before he ever uttered a word. His awful smirk and body language was very revealing about his political leaning. No gray areas for him! He was determined to destroy Clinton. I wonder if he's happy with where Bush has taken the country?

68. They are usually the ones who wear lots of perfume or cologne, |

like to be perfectly coiffed and fake-baked, and spend a lot of time "keeping up with the Jones." Other right-winger types may not show all of those tell tale signs, but will always have the insane look in their eyes, ala Orrin Hatch.

70. It's hard to tell some of them... |

but REALLY easy to spot the angry haters- they just look like their parents beat them, or they were at the end of the line for penises in God's cafeteria. We get far more of these types out here in ski country than I ever would have imagined.

and empty eyes. Also, they are the most uncool people I've ever seen. I'm serious...can you think of a conservative who is cool?

79. Usually. I was wrong once though. |

I think we sense them as a survival instinct, maybe because they are often dangerous to human well-being.
I can usually, but not always, sense nearby rattlesnakes before they rattle, and have sensed earthquakes before they happened. I can't explain the feeling about rattlesnakes except that it is kind of a minor adrenaline rush. But I usually get dizzy and feel a little nauseous about 5 minutes before an earthquake.
The presence of right-wingers makes me feel kind of like there is a rattlesnake in the vicinity.

80. I'm often wrong about people's political beliefs |

When I first met one of the lawyers I work with I had him pegged for a GOPer. He had a real straight-laced Alex Keaton type of look. Turns out he's a big time Dem. In addition, I know another guy who looks like a refugee from Woodstock but is actually pretty conservative. Ya never know.
