We need Edwards
in the Senate.

Seriously. Regaining the Senate is important. We're already losing Kerry assuming he wins. We don't need to take two Dem Senators out of play.

On a more lighthearted note, this is a response to 'what a good Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State' Wes Clark would make. Yes, we know. Edwards would similarly make a good Senator, don't you think? He has all the qualifications too, like he already is one.

Edwards would do great in a leadership role in the Senate when we retake it. He'd be on TV all the time using his skills to sell a better America, far more than he would as VP, if his common-folk persuasiveness is an important factor for you. He's a young guy too, who has plenty of time to get on another Presidential ticket. Maybe Hillary's VP.

Wesley Clark is the man for Kerry Vice-President.

1. Edwards isn't running for Senate anyway
He's already lost for the 109th Congress...

2. Do you mean if Kerry picked someone tomorrow
Edwards wouldn't run for another Senate term? I hadn't heard that.

3. No, he's already not running for another term
It's been that way since he started running for President. I guess it's one or the other in NC.

5. But if he's not on the ticket
he's not running for President.

I understand this is different than Lieberman, who held his seat until he wasn't elected, but Edwards really isn't running for anything right now.

7. Actually
He could have run for re-election to the senate, even while running for another office. He's chosen not to. Not to worry though. NC will send dem Erskin Bowles to the senate in his stead.

4. Where have you been? Bowles is running for Senate in NC for months.
Do you have any other opinions about politics you'd like to share? Should Ford should pardon Nixon? Should JFK pick Johnson for VP?

6. Ouch!
Erskine Bowles, who lost to Liddy. Yes I'd heard that, but I didn't think that meant Edwards couldn't run to hold his seat if he wasn't on a Presidential ticket.

If he can't, legally due to his primary involvement, that's one thing. But if he can, would you really want Erskine over Edwards?

8. The dynamics of the senate race are very different this time
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 12:43 PM by HFishbine
Last time around, the race was for Jesee Helms' seat -- the republican had an advantage. This time Bowles is running for Edwards' seat and he's running against a weak republican candidate who doesn't have nearly the name-recognition nor stature of Liddy Dole.

9. I want Edwards where he can make biggest difference, kicking fascists back
Bowles will hold Dem line in Senate. Edwards can have a bigger influence higher up.

That's how I feel.
