Not smart, Georgie.
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 10:44 PM by rocknation
From Georgie's latest campaign ad The Coalition Of The Wild-Eyed:

If he's angry about being compared to Hitler, why in the world did they include this scene? And why include the quote that God, rather than Congress, sanctioned his war on terror?

11. Maybe it's their idea of pre-emptive strike.
The liberals don't DARE compare him to Hitler now, right? At least, they couldn't if it weren't for that scene. Maybe if I watch Take Back The Media's Bush Is Not A Nazi, I can make sense of it.

7. That is from one of the MoveOn submitted ads
The one that caused all the controversy. It is in the latest Bush ad as an example of "liberal extremism." So, it is not in the Bush ad as direct discourse, but indirect discourse (here's how the liberals behave).

But I never saw the submission to Moveon, so I didn't make the connection. I wonder if they are going to show this other than on the website. I think lots of people will need an explaination like I did.

They're paying for an attack ad against themselves. It just doesn't seem like a good strategy to bring up torture prisons, fictitious reasons for war, etc.

29. My initial reaction was to wonder why a Kerry ad was on Bush's site
especially when I saw the MoveOn logo. But I agree with Gbwarming that's it's a self-inflicted attack ad. And I'd also like to quote a poster on the Randi Rhodes message board poster who wrote that it was the best pro-Kerry ad he or she had seen so far!

showing people who are pissed off about his polices and then throwing corny george up to tell eveyone it's gonna be ok, seems like it is a few lines away from being a parody. strange.

I didn't realize that. But still, while watching the ad I wanted to put myself in the place of an undecided voter. I was trying determine what the average moderate, "swing" voter would think while watching it?

I'm not in marketing so I can't predict how other people will react, but honestly, seeing that picture with the "God told me to do it" quote on top of it really gave me the creeps. :scared: Besides, I saw the MoveOn ad and I didn't realize it was the same clip ... so would the average person know that? I mean, the DUers and the Freepers all knew about it, but did the average American ever see it or even hear about it?

On edit: I just watched it again and yes, I did see the "Sponsored by MoveOn.org" frame earlier, but I didn't make the connection. Duh! I guess I was just too busy trying to figure out why they would do an ad that makes everyone look good except Bush!

Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 10:45 PM by LizW
The rest of the ad is outrageous, but at least the message is one I recognize from the 'Pukes repertoire: if you speak out against Bush*, you must be insane, wild-eyed, wackadoo, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But this scene -- wtf???

It's bad enough that they have Hitler morphing into Bush* in the same Nazi salute pose, but to superimpose that freaky quote over Hitler's picture, as if he was saying it? All you have to do is substitute the words "the Jews" for "al-Qaida" and the word "homosexuals" for "Saddam."

It freaks me out. Why would they do this, if not to appeal to the base? And if this does in fact appeal to the base, then god help us.

:scared:

Edited to say, Ah, now I get it thanks to your explainations. Thanks.

14. I just wonder...
... since they are showing these clips as the average Kerry supporter. And, they used a clip from an ad that was never aired, if we could do the same with their supporters. I'm sure we could find clips of various KKK and insane religious fanatics saying horrible things in support of Bush.

That would be great: George Bush - Supported by racists and zealots.

20. The similarities between this regime and Hitler are now so striking
that they have to address the issue by claiming that it is the Democrats that are the wild eyed Nazis.

Look and you will see, every right wing attack is in the form of accusing the other side of the crimes in which they themselves are guilty of committing.

The advantages for doing this are: putting the other side on the defensive and creating the first impression of guily on Democrats every time the issue is ever mentioned from then on.

without knowing the context, this could be a kerry ad.

first thing that came to mind was the old canard about not believing one's own press releases.

and this pessimism meme? do they think we are retards? it's almost a non-sequitir and they want to make this a sales point of their crusade, er, i mean campaign?

didn't bushy practically talk us into a recession during the 2000 presidential election cycle, even though the economy was still pretty decent?

some serious disconnect going on in the bushy camp

34. They're morons
It's from an ad that was submitted to MoveOn.org. The problem is that most people never saw that ad. So it totally looks like Bush is comparing himself to Hitler. This ad will probably go down in history as the most ineffective political ad ever.

6 million....Where have I heard that number before?
