Remember: Invite (& pay for) a moderate friend or family member to F 9/11
This weekend...or next week...invite a moderate (or even conservative) friend or family member to see Farenheit 9/11 this weekend - PAY for them (takes away their excuse).

This is the way to change the way non-political people view our country.....they have to sit down and SEE the truth.

Discuss the film...

Seeing the film on Friday here. Taking two friends.

1. Exactamundo!
It's only when it reaches beyond the choir, and into the back pews, that it will change anything.

Moore didn't pour his heart out making this for those of us who already "get it"........ he needs our help in getting the fencesitters into the theaters.

2. The film won't change people's votes alone...WE can do that
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 11:48 PM by jackstraw45
by getting people into the theater and DEFENDING the points in the film with FACTS. Use Michael Moore's website as fact-checker. If people dispute something in the film, follow up on it - the research is probably already on http://www.michaelmoore.com/mustread/f911facts/.

Once people are FORCED to see the truth, they might change their minds.

3. Here's the email I sent to my family members & friends....I had many say
...they couldn't wait to go and were so excited, but my ultra-conservative, Reagan Republican Dad and my stepfather who is a retired military officer living in Florida all went balistic on me and said some outrageous things about Mike Moore (all the talking points from the conservative shows) and said that I couldn't pay them any amount of money to go....Oh well, I tried...

Meanwhile, I see the film did end up with an "R" rating...I have the good mind to start a campaign and offer to "escort" young men and women between the ages of 14-16 who can't get in on their own. Those poor kids in that age group need to see what might be coming into their future if * is re-selected...they might not be able to vote, but they might influence friends and family if they are worried enough.

Hello my Friends & Family!

I don't know if any of you ever saw "Bowling for Columbine" but both of us think it was one of the best documentary films we ever saw....Not because we are either pro/con on Guns, but rather because of real thought provoking questions and ideas about why there is so much gun violence and "fear" in the American psyche. Well, Michael Moore is about to have his newest movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" released. I have a friend who saw it last week at a Pre-screening and said it's amazing...There is a reason Disney tried to stop its release and why there is even a website dedicated to stopping its being shown (http://www.moveamericaforward.org/MichaelMoore/ - makes you wonder whether these people are for free speech or censorship?). It's not because it's "unpatriotic" as opponents claim - its because it shows you things they don't want you to know about.

I consider myself a Patriot and an American - I send this email out of love for my country and my love for you all... Maybe you are like me and feel that when you turn on the "News" and get nothing but propaganda and the Bush Administration's spin on their version of truth, and that your civil liberties are under attack and that this administration is corrupt (think Enron & Halliburton), then your going to love this movie and be blown away. And those of you who either continue to support Bush or are undecided, I ask you to have an open mind...what are you afraid of?? The truth? Seeing something that you might not like & might make you question this administration? Not wanting to spend the $$$? Well, I'm willing to pay for those of you who are non-believers in the mass deception going on and even reimburse you for any gas, taxifare, parking costs etc. to see it. I look forward to hearing what you all "think" about what you see and feel after seeing this film....To the truth, free-thinking & free speech...

7. Amen!
My husband and I are taking another couple to see FH 9/11 in Montgomery, AL, tonight - they would never have planned to see this movie without our invitation, much less drive an hour away to opening night. They are our neighbors; they are ex-military; they are parents to three great kids, just trying to make ends meet like most of us. They are not rapid right-wing "repukes", though almost certainly vote Republican when they vote at all. These are people for whom this film has the greatest potential impact, IMHO.

I posted this in another thread this morning -

I hope all of us can take seriously the challenge to take someone to the movie that wouldn't have gone otherwise. I know it is a hell of a lot more convenient and fun to go with like-minded friends, but that doesn't do any more than provide a great night out.

People respond to other people, period. This movie won't change anyone's mind about Bush unless they actually see it. And I think we are kidding ourselves if we think that the average American will be driven to see this film by its publicity, positive or negative. Most fence-sitters (not to mention Republicans) will only go if they are asked by someone they know and trust.

It is easy to be optimistic about swinging folks to our side if you live and work among other activists. I've been there. To us, these issues are so clear. But that isn't the reality that the vast majority of Americans live in. Most are far more concerned about the cost of day care or whether or not they'll ever be able to own their own home (or any number of other things that directly impact them on a daily basis) than national politics. Most can't see the very real connection between the actions of the administration and these daily concerns, because it isn't Bush calling because the rent is late or behind the counter at the gas station.

We have to reach out to those who need this movie, rather than sit back and revel in how superior we all are to the rest of the sheep. Otherwise, that self-congratulation will be cold comfort in November.

Sorry for the rant!

8. Thanks for doing this - especially in a GOP state
This is a great way to help people learn about this administration.

Who else is going to do it? Faux? CNN? MSNBC? NBC? CBS? ABC?

Anyhow, way to go southlandshari!

I'm afraid not many are interested in talking about (or talking to, for that matter) the people who aren't already excited about FH 9/11.

On edit - to be clear, I'm one of those who has been counting the hours until I get to see the movie tonight. I'm just hoping that many, many other DUers are, like me, inviting friends and family to come along who wouldn't otherwise see the film!
