The three most common non-factual slams against F 9/11 in its reviews |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 12:51 AM by Sliverofhope
I've been reading the F 9/11 reviews on Rottentomatoes.com, and it seems those who give it negative reviews all find three basic things at fault with it.
1. It pulls its punches, and doesn't go after Bush hard enough, or with enough evidence that's easily available to really sink him.
2. It will preach only to the converted; Moore is too flippant to appeal to GOPers or, perhaps, undecideds.
3. It says nothing surprising. That Bush is a liar and corrupt is a given, and all Americans know this.
I thought it would be interesting to point these out. I have not yet seen the film.

1. WRT to your third reason..................... |

3. It says nothing surprising. That Bush is a liar and corrupt is a given, and all Americans know this.
The movie says nothing surprising to those of us who make it point to stay informed using the InterNet. But for others who use the InterNet to play games or view porn or go shopping, the info will be news to them. After all, the mainstream media has not reported most of the facts that we've read on this site and other left-leaning sites.

I believe that most people don't know most of this stuff, but it was a pretty common attack on the film.

3. I thought they're repeating the Newsweek slams... |
|
At least in People Weekly, some of the same charges made against F-11, were ones that I think Newsweek made, and that Moore answered on his webpage.

However, I've been reading the 89 or so reviews at Rottentomatoes.com; none of them claim any factual error. Or none of that was included. I just thought these three were interesting, since most of the bad reviews came from Bush-haters.

4. I imagine #2 is the most valid... |
|
...but you can apply that criticism to every political book or movie that has come out in the last 3 years.
Everything seems like a cheerleader piece nowadays, right or left. Buncha preaching to the choir going on for both sides.
I still look forward to seeing the film.

6. Fighting the slams: Evidence is the best medicine |
|
Getting the evidence out is crucial. Give your undecided friends copies of the 9/11 Timeline from cooperative research.org. The Bush/Saudi section is a great start. All the mainstream journalistic links are on there. Links to the 9/11 timeline should be sent to any reviewer who slams Farenheight based on its facts.
I may carry a copy of the timeline with me when I go to the theater--just in case any right wingers try to demonstrate.
