Since when was encouraging democracy actually policy?
As far back as I can remember the U.S. government would lambast about the lack of democracy in many of the nations in the Middle East and elsewhere, and at the same time crush any semblance of democracy that they view as against our business interests. We would fund death squads trained by SS officers we protected (Has that ever actually stopped?). Secret police we supported (SAVAK) who would kill all political opponents left of Hitler, and fix elections worldwide to ensure we would have compliant trading partners. When have we ever lived up to our own hype, and when the hell are the American People going to realize that most have been lied to consistantly for the past 50 years at least. 9/11 was blowback for policies we initiated starting in 1953, and countinue on today in Iraq, we take democracy away from the Middle East and we expect them to believe us when * says we're going to bring democracy to Iraq. Yeah right, hell I wouldn't trust the US to be the International Dog Catcher much less as leader of the "Free World".

1. Does anyone have that list
of military interventions the U.S. has undertaken in the past and how many "democracies" resulted? It's somewhere in my files and I can't find it. I HATE when that happens! :spank:

2. It never has and...
never will be. One of the best recent examples of the American government's idea of democracy is the "freedom fries" episode. If most of the French people opposed the latest invasion of Iraq and the government respects the people's wishes by opposing it also, then why was the administration so upset? Same goes for Turkey.

Democracy is for those responsible enough to agree with America. All others are with the terrorists.
