BBC: Moore film divides America
OK, the film divides America, not Bush, and not the war, but those who reports the facts???

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3838243.stm

Michael Moore's award-winning documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 has opened to rave reviews - but not among supporters of President George Bush.

The filmmaker has made it clear that he wants this film to send Mr Bush crashing to defeat in November's presidential election.

And Republicans have few kind words for Mr Moore.

But while praise has been lavished on him following top honours at Cannes, reviewers are beginning to take a more critical look at the film.

Praise for Moore
...
It is worth seeing, debating and thinking about, regardless of your political allegiances

A.O. Scott, New York Times
"The documentary's scathing attack on the war in Iraq and George W Bush's presidency is informative, provocative, frightening, compelling, funny, manipulative and, most of all, entertaining," she said.

In the New York Times, A.O. Scott said, " can be obnoxious, tendentious and maddeningly self-contradictory. He can drive even his most ardent admirers crazy. He is a credit to the republic."
...
'Propaganda

But many media reports also focused on the conservative backlash against Mr Moore and the film.

Books critical of Mr Moore are set for release, and conservative group Move America Forward has led a high-profile campaign to encourage theatres not to screen the film.

Another conservative group, Citizens United, has called on the Federal Elections Commission to investigate whether television ads for the film violate new campaign finance laws, media reports noted.

Mr Moore says the film does not endorse Democratic candidate John Kerry, in fact, it criticises him and other senior Democrats for not standing up to President Bush.

And the campaign finance law makes an exemption for media, which the film might fall under.

But Citizens United counters that the film is propaganda and should not qualify for the media exemption.

1. News Flash for the BBC: America was divided long ago by the GOP
America divided back in the 60's and hasn't been united since. Moore's film is only one more example of just how divided we are.

4. How come these "high profile" conservative groups
are groups I haven't heard of until I come here and read commentaries? Could it be that they really don't have the backing of very many people?

Personally, I hope some folks who like Bush go see the film, because it might make them wake up and smell the roses. So far, all the conservative bashing has been by people who haven't seen the movie.

5. Wow. Moore is almost as powerful as the Clenis
If he can divide the country with a movie, he's definitely 2nd to the almighty Clenis.

Republicans always blame everything and everybody for their own fowl deeds.

6. The very fact that this movie is MAKING news, shows how desperately
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 08:12 AM by SoCalDem
we NEEDED the movie.. The same goes for all the recent books.. The ONLY way we hear BOTH sides of issues is to PAY FOR IT.. The propaganda is free 24/7 on tv and radio, but when someone DARES to tell the "other side of the story", it's BANNER HEADLINES..

The media has totally abdicated their only reason for being.. They have told the conservative side for so many years, that when someone dares to tell the liberal side, THAT becomes more newsworthy than the news itself.
