Schwarzenegger Wants Strays Killed Faster

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) wants to repeal a state law that requires animal shelters to hold stray dogs and cats for up to six days before killing them.

Instead, there would be a three-day requirement for strays. Other animals, including birds, hamsters, potbellied pigs, rabbits, snakes and turtles, could be killed immediately.

Schwarzenegger has told the state Legislature that the changes could save local governments that operate shelters up to $14 million.

2. The terminator strikes again.
Animal abuse is a precursor to violence against humans.

This sick bastard needs to be terminated. He'd rather kill animals than clean up the mess his energy dealing overlords left in Cali.

5. Isn't it possible
That there is a far bigger problem here.

"An estimated 600,000 dogs and cats are put to death each year in California, including 34,000 in Los Angeles alone."

600,000! every year. This doesn't have anything to do with Republicans or Arnold. It has to do with irresponsible people allowing their animals to breed at will.Every person who has allowed their dog or cat to have a litter and then has taken that litter to the animal shelter is to blame.Every person who allows their cats and dogs to run around free is to blame.
This isn't happening just in California.

10. Agreed. But
Arnold is still an asshole by putting money in front of the lives of these animals. In those extra three days, many could and would be adopted.

11. Even the most responsible pet owner can lose his or her pet
While I personally have no use for irresponsible pet owners, I feel that this law will also end up punishing responsible pet owners. Even the most responsible person can lose a pet. Dogs do occasionally get out of back yards despite their owners' best efforts. Unfortunately, thanks to this new law, they would have a shorter time to reclaim their pets. If their pet happens to be a rabbit that accidentally got out or a snake, the animals will be killed instantly.

9. I would rather see Arnold use that money

to fight California having to pay Enron 277 million that it was recently ordered to pay. Stray animals are very low on our list of ways to save/make money. Arnold's priorities are a bit skewed.
