1. Can you say "blowback?"
What they're doing is comparing brief snippets of oratory style to Adolph. What they forgot is that the average holy roller preacher sounds even more like that than the average orator!

Not only that, but I doubt anyone who was alive during WWII is going to take this very kindly.

5. Posted on Moveon, then voluntarily removed
and hosted since then on an RNC site, and used in a Bush ad by Bush/Cheney04. Speaks volumes IMO.

4. WHO accepts the argument ...
That those who criticise the leader is like a Nazi ? ..

CMON ! ...

When the leader DEMANDS none criticise him: then THAT leader is like a nazi ... NOT his critics ...

That ad is more PRO-Democrat and ANTI-Bush than was intended, Im sure ...

what they're trying to accomplish here. I mean, maybe I get it. I don't see how it's going to work.

7. I've looked and looked...
I went to the website, but all I get is the same two ads I've been seeing on TV for weeks now. WHERE is the ad that has a reference to Hitler?

10. On the main site... click the word "Watch"
the only Hitler reference is the clip played from the ad submitted to the Move On contest which shows Hitler morphing into Bush.

This is an awesome ad for us and we need to encourage them to run it often.

11. The add goes through all the 'faces' of Democrats...
Starting with President Gore, Moveon.org Hitler adds, Gov. Dean, Michael Moore, Dick Gephardt, John Kerry (all of them are saying what we've been talking about here)...and then you get nice elevatore music and a sign that says 'That's no time for pessimism and rage...but for optimism, leadership, blah, blah, blah' and a picture of Dear Leader....

Dems should take the add, cut out the end, and play it that way...I think it's a great ad.

14. What about Bush's Coalition of the Wild-Eyed LoudMouths?!?!?
Hannity,Rush, Ann, O'reilly, Ted Sampley, Ollie, Chris Hitch, and so on.

It seems really bizarre that GWB campaign would make an ad claiming that Democrats are wackjobs when their main champions at this point are seriously deranged.

17. It may be more clever than we think...

When I first saw this ad, my initial reaction was "Wow, the Bush campaign is so incompetent that they can't even make use of those obscure (yet admittedly over-the-top) MoveOn.org Hitler ads without making it look like they're comparing Democrats to Hitler. Whatta buncha maroons."

Now, after reading a lot of reactions from DU, and from the Kerry campaign itself, I'm starting to think it's a GOP trap. Here's how it works:

1) Bush campign creates web-only ad prominitely featuring well-known Democratic spokespeople allegedly frothing at the mouth. These sequences speak for themselves. Sliced in between these self-evident clips are a couple of snippets of the WAY over-the-top Hitler/Bush ads from the MoveOn.org contest. These clips DO NOT speak for themselves, and unless one has been paying close attention to the picayune details of the campaign, one could easily come to the conclusion that the Bush campaign is trying to compare the "frothing" Democratic speakers to Hitler.

2) Democrats who don't pay enough attention to the ad complain that the Bush campaign is comparing Deomcrats to Hitler.

3) Bush campaign counters on Sunday talk shows, saying "These are from YOUR ads, numbnuts! Don't you know how to watch an ad?"

4) In the end, Bush campaign has a) made us look stupid for not being able to able to properly interpret an ad, b) re-introduced the "Democrats compared Bush to Hitler" meme into the media, and c) Gotten away with subliminally comparing US to Hitler.

Neat trick, that,
Mike.

19. That's not the point...
...the point is, the Hitler material didn't originate from the Republican, Bush, or even Michael Savage; it came from "our" side of the fence via the MoveOn.org ad comeptition.

-- Was the Hitler ad entry quickly repudiated by MoveOn, the DNC, and every single one of our primary candidates? You betcha.

-- Is it an incredible reach for the GOP to use it in a re-election ad as a representative sampling of those who oppose Our Beloved Leader? Oh golly yes.

But guess what? It may not matter in this case, because every time one of us (including, tragically, the Kerry campaign) fails to get past the apparent "Bush is comparing the Democrats to Hitler" imagery of the ad, it gives the GOP an excuse to say "neener neener neener, these are YOUR clips, ya stupid librul morans!"

All I'm sayin' is, let's be a little smart about this.

Mike.

20. I understand your point...but it flat out isn't clever and will backfire!
Co-workers I showed it to today were shocked an enraged! They felt that the Repuke party must be going insane, were really over the edge & must be incredibly desperate to run an ad like that!
