Are Democrats REALLY upset about Cheney saying 'fuck'? |
|
I sure hope not. People swear, for fuck's sake. Dems on the hill should give it a Fucking try! Shake things the FUCK UP!
Can you imagine how popular CSPAN would be if politicians allowed themselves to speak like everyone else? Awesome. Truly awesome.

Who the hell does he think he is saying that to Leahy? What would happen in the reverse? Leahy and every other Dem Senator deserves as much respect as those bastards expect for themselves. I don't care if he's Veep, that doesen't give him the right to speak that way to a Democratic Senator, no matter what.
And what ticks me off even more, he's not the least bit remorseful or even chagrined. DAMN him. Damn him to hell.

They have one set of standards for themselves, and a different one for everybody else. I can only imagine their bellows of outrage if Al Gore had said this to a Republican senator. They would still be obsessing over it.
They are vicious, cowardly, sniveling, brain-rotted hypocrites, who are selling out the citizens of this country to further enrich themselves. It's time to stop taking this treatment, and fight back.

You don't have to go very far to find t-shirts that say "John Kerry? No F-in' Way!" because, obviously, a man who uses that kind of language isn't fit for president.. (of course, dubya's been known to swear like an illiterate sailor, himself, but we won't worry about that)
My real problem with Cheney, however, isn't so much that he said "Fuck", it's that he is a Fuck.

It didn't bother me when John Kerry described the war on terror as having been "fucked up." What bothers me is the open contempt, disregard for decorum and direct insult of openly saying "go fuck yourself" to a person who basically amounts to a co-worker on the floor of the Senate. No restraint, no respect, no shame. Had Kerry said "go fuck yourself" to someone on the floor of the Senate all those months ago, that would have indeed bothered me. Had Cheney described, say, a policy as "fucked up," no, not really so much at all.

This is NOT a "public servant" or someone willing to "cooperate" with others in a diverse, multicultural nation. This is a myopic, obsessive autocrat who tolerates no dissent or opposition. "Go fuck yourself" is the root and source of his entire ideology. Inimical to democracy, it's the articulation of his entire life philosophy: "Fuck you! I got mine!" The first question he ever contemplates is: "What's in it for me?" He's a corrupt, greedy, self-centered, sociopathic sleaze-bag - and that's a slander to sleaze-bags.

by saying that word in public in the Senate chamber, Cheney has devalued the word.
When I was younger it was a special word appropriate only for special occasions. Nowadays every time I pass by some punks, er, I mean kids on the street, they are using that word in every sentence. Now with the Vice President saying it, we might as well let the FCC remove it from their list of forbidden words. What a pity!

Somebody should give Mr. Dick The Lenny Bruce Lifetime Achievement Medal--get Carlin or Stern. None of them played the Senate. Just don't put it too close to that artificial heart, don't want radio interference in the event the duty doc needs to phone in a little Cheney uptick.
Maybe we can just skip to the end of the empire now, get into those kung-foo fighting parliamentary battles that seem so popular in third world not-ready-for-prime-time democracies (recently failed superpowers too!).

This is the attitude that BushCo. exhibits toward ANYONE AND EVERYONE who dares to disagree, dares to question, or dares to criticize: GO FUCK YOURSELF. Basically, this is their attitude to the rest of America: GO FUCK YOURSELVES.
Is it the language? No, I curse like a fuckin' sailor myself. But I have the good sense and decorum (as a lawyer) not to do it in the courtroom! Thus, it becomes a matter of PISS-POOR JUDGMENT!
I think Wes Clark is right: this is a sign of the STRESS that is tightening inexorably in the White House. They're fucking CRACKING UP. Personally, I hope Crashcart's ticker just up and fucking QUITS from the stress -- says fuck it, we're outta here.

Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 07:53 PM by messiertom
It's that he used "fuck" to deliberately insult a United States Senator. Senate members are among the most esteemed and respected members of the United States government (at least the ones on our side are :)). And, oh yeah, he said it on the Senate floor, during an official Senate event.
It's not that he said "fuck." If he had said "These fucking pretzels are making me thirsty!" then no one should have a problem with it. When he says "go fuck yourself" to a U.S Senator (or to anyone), then he's crossed the line.
The most important thing, however, as many have already pointed out, is the hypocrisy from the RWers. Why are they not "outraged" as they were when Howard Stern said bad things about Our Fearless Leader? Or when Janet Jackson's breast (I'm sure they giggle when they see that word. Wait, even more amusing for them: boobie) popped out?

60. Maybe I'm old fashioned |
|
But I have different standards for members of the government conducting business in the Congress than I do for, the Daily Show.
I hold them to respect the civilized standards of the Congress and public life and use polite speech. To be unable to do so in such a forum is a very poor reflection on those who violate the standards of those hallowed institutions.
Don't know about you guys, but the fucking **Congress of the United States** still **MEANS** something to me -- it is one of the checks against absolute power in our nation, you may recall -- and I expect those who have the HONOR of representing their country in its fucking hallowed halls should show RESPECT for it -- and polite speech is a sign of respect for it.
Dick Cheney can say what he wants in private -- but using proscribed language in our CONGRESS while addressing a member of that Congress reflects his disrespect for it -- and by inference, disrespect for our country and its Constitution.
And isn't that one of the things about this administration -- their disrespect for and arrogance towards those they share power with?
People -- this is a LOT more serious than just a cussword we all use casually around here -- it is yet another manifestation of the seizure of power by the executive branch. What's next -- maybe Cheney will piss on Ted Kennedy. Male chimpanzees, in similar battles of dominance, will shit in their hands and hurl it at their opponent -- will that get your attention? Or maybe Cheney should cane someone....
I say -- let the Senate conduct itself like the Senate, and not the Jerry Springer show.
I agree with someone on another thread that this may well be a signal that anything goes from now on.... And you thought everything was ALREADY "everything goes"! But you ain't seen nothing yet!! Prepare to be amazed, my friends!
