Kerry Needs to Re-Do His "Health-Care" Message |
|
I believe that much of the Kerry campaign is moving quite well (learned long ago that direct assaults on opponents, though well deserved, tend to backfire). However, I've seen a number of John's healthcare ads now, and I have acid reflux because of them.
I had hoped that things would never be stated in the way he has presented in these ads. He talks about how unpardonable it is that such a rich nation does not have healthcare for all. Of course he is correct. Of course it's a national disgrace. But, unfortunately, a good number of those without healthcare do not vote. Proof??--if they did, we would not be having this discussion because they could easily elect a President and a Congress who would have given them that basic humane benefit!
However, we have a large body of people who HAVE health insurance, but are being strangled with it. The employer contribution, the co-pays, the limitations, etc. are making middle class Americans panic----people who DO vote. I've always been scared that our nominee would not address their concerns and not propose a solution that greatly helped their situtation. Perhaps John has somewhere in his "position papers" addressed this large classification of people. But people don't read those. It's his ads that send the message. Right now his ads send the message that "the uninsured, period, have to be helped"; and that sends chills up the spines of the others. They invision a system that either makes them pay way more then they now do to support the others; or a system that will tax their teeth out. Kerry has to straighten this out in his ads and he has to do it now. I know we want all people to have healthcare; but it will never take place unless the Democrats take back this nation. Therefore, Kerry needs to clarify with the public that this is NOT a "welfare" type of proposal. Many democrats will not support that--it's a different country now. He must demonstrate that his healthcare propsals are a benefit to all Americans. He needs to re-do his commercials.
