F-911: Booker Elementary school
When Bush* sat while the children read to him there was a bulletin board directly behind him.

Does anyone remember what the paper on the bulletin board said? I can't remember. It said something about reading being good for the country or something to that effect.

The reason I ask is because more than a year ago, I found an online article from their local newspaper that was written before Bush's* visit to that school. It described how the school was excited about his visit and how the White House was preparing the school, students and faculty.

One thing the article said is that the White House covered up the bulletin board the teacher and kids prepared especially for his visit with a White House version of a school bulletin board. How cheesy is that?

I sometimes think about how they spin Bush* didn't want to upset the children with his inaction that morning, but I think more damage is done to children by rejecting something special that they made just for his visit; just so he could have a photo-op to project an image of Bush's* illusion of himself.

Not only did he reject their work, but he portrayed a lie, pretending his bulletin board belonged to them. What message did that give the children?

I did have a link to that article, but lost it along with others after a hard drive crash a few months ago. I tried finding it today, but to no avail.

I saw the film yesterday afternoon, but was caught up in the excitement of the moment, I didn't see what all was on that bulletin board. I am curious. What did the Bush* people think was more important to have in that photo op as opposed to what a real classroom would have? When I see it again, I'll pay closer attention.

If any DUers remember or are going to see it soon, please let me know what you see or remember. Thanks.

well...who knows what might have been if he read?

i am not surprised they did that, not putting any crudity past them, but it is a perfect demonstration of them.
vulgarly supremacist, over even such petty (**to them!) things!

pro'ly some kind of speaker in it (see it's right behind his head) speaking the words of the book into his ear - or his instructions.

That's a pretty good picture. Too bad Bush* is in it.

There are a load of pictures of his visit on the school's website.

9. I didn't realize that link took you back to the district
Click on Schools
Scroll down and click on Emma E. Booker Elementary
Click School Web Site which is right below the school's name, and above the principal's name
Click Read about President Bush's 09.11.01 visit located on the upper right hand side of page.

From there, there are several pages of pictures.

Sorry about the link mix-up, I didn't realize it took us back to the district page.

"We received valuable information on what to expect, when to arrive, and how Tuesday was supposed to be. Of course, Tuesday took a terrible turn."

i'd like to hear about those kids now, their thoughts about it all. being in the center of such history, and now in Fahrenheit 9/11.

14. what do we tell the children?
I don't think I've ever seen this topic covered--how the WH denied the children's reality at Booker Elementary School. They did this by covering the children's own preparations for the visit with a slick backdrop devised by Madison Avenue types.

How sad. How terribly, terribly sad.

It was indeed fascinating to look at the pictures at the 9/11 link from Booker Elementary. If you haven't seen these, you're really missing something.

Poignant.

19. For me, it DEBUNKS the 'upset the children' spin
or whatever the excusing spin was.

If they honestly cared about the children they would not have taken something so simple away from them.

Everywhere Bush* goes he has to have his own backdrop. The 'Mission Accomplish' backdrop, and those 'Made in America' boxes come to mind right now.

It says something when the man appears anywhere in America, they feel compelled to remove America's authenticity and replace it with an illusion. I guess America's not good enough for Bush's* 'image'.

Those pictures are fascinating, aren't they?

15. and BTW
I had always heard he was reading "My Pet Goat" to the kids after he was told about the second plane. But the film showed he was just SITTING there, and SITTING there, looking dazed.

:wtf:

16. yes, that's right!
Hadn't thought of that. But after seeing the clip, he was just sitting there with that look on his face--an angry look that said, "I've been crossed."

How awkward must that have been for the children? To have this guy just sitting there with this look on his face?

I've long thought a major key to understanding 9/11 is this reaction of his in the school. That's why I broke the expressions down into the sequence, as above.

In photo 2, he's assimilating the information. In 3 he's trying to get a grip. By 4, he's angry.

20. The thing that struck me was that...

...he wasn't even interacting with the children. The teacher was reading, or doing something with the kids while Bush was reading "My Pet Goat" or looking around in a daze.

He looked really out of it.

21. Maybe someone can answer a question I have about this?
The way I understand it, the principal of the school has praised Bush for acting as a calming influence on the children. However Andrew Card is shown whispering in Bush's ear that a second building has been hit. How do the children have any knowledge of what has occurred??? In other words, why would they need to be calmed about something they have no knowledge of???

22. Exactly! That's been my question all along too!
The kids would have understood.

There was still a huge room full of children waiting for him in their media room, but he didn't continue his planned visit with them. (you can see pictures of them all at the school's web site) Instead he made a statement and left. He's just too damn inept to speak unless someone writes the statement for him!

Here's his statement: (from the school's web site,)

Here is what President Bush said at Emma E. Booker Elementary:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a difficult moment for America. I, unfortunately, will be going back to Washington after my remarks. Secretary (of education) Rod Paige and the lieutenant governor will take the podium and discuss education. I do want to thank the folks here at Booker Elementary School for their hospitality.

Today, we have had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country. I have spoken to the vice president, to the governor of New York and to the director of the FBI, and I've ordered the full resources of the federal government to help the victims and their families and to find those folks who committed this act.

Terrorism against our nation will not stand. And now, if you'll join me in a moment of silence.

(pause)

May God bless the victims, their families and America. Thank you very much.

(and we all know he didn't go back to Washington, did he? So even then he didn't know what he was going to do, or he lied to the kids.)
