Jack Valenti " I don't think you can buy a congressman's vote "
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 09:22 AM by moof
answer from Jack Valenti to Lesley Stahl's question about Jack's view on being lobbiest for hollywood and the dark reputation of influence purchasing that being a lobbiest suggests.

The liar then went on to get in the fairy tale about Oswald being Kennedy's lone killer.

note to self, make sure to never be in a postion to cross paths
with Jack as it would be a shame to end such a long streak of pacifism by slapping him so hard he'll be drinking his champagne thru a straw for the forseeable future.

1. Ha Ha
Don't make me laugh. There is PLENTY of evidence to the contrary. For instance, why would a republican from the extremely conservative 3rd district of Nebraska(former rep Bill Barrett) support illegal immigration at every turn unless meat packing plants who wanted the cheep labor were filling his coffers?

2. Valenti is either mentally numb of openly deceitful against his consumers
What's left to say? There is no way he's mentally numb.

3. Jack Valenti, a Poppy Bush pResidential Library Foundation Trustee
... says a lot ...

jumped the shark?

almost 100 trustees: the Gropenator; James Baker; Fred Malek; William Farish, etc. -- a lot of shady characters
http://www.georgebushfoundation.org/bush/asp/OverView/Trustees.asp

didn't 'the White House' meet with 'Hollywood' after 911?
wasn't that with Jack Valenti behind closed doors?
what was the purpose?
to get inside pull as far as what kind of propaganda films come out of the pipeline?

"Born in Houston, Texas ... Valenti was in the motorcade (six cars back of the President) in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Within an hour of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Valenti was aboard Air Force One flying back to Washington with the new President as the first newly hired Special Assistant to the President." http://www.mpaa.org/jack/jack/content.htm

4. The man's delusional
Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I propose he be held for observation because he is clearly a danger to himself and others.

5. Clearly, Valenti isn't that stupid
But Lesley Stahl should find it rather insulting that he thinks she is.

7. Jackass Valenti is a reich wing prick
I for one was extremely amused when they trotted him out at last year's Oscars after Michael Moore's acceptance speech. That dude's like Nosferatu, he never comes out in the light of day...

Come to think of it he looks an awful lot like Novakula. Coincidence?!

8. Weird parrallel with old LBJ cronies
LBJ was a pretty liberal guy, though he was kind of a war hawk.

He was also one of the most powerful presidents of the last century, and second most powerful next to FDR. He was a hardass. He thrived on intimidation. Many of his personality traits can be found in conservative leaders of today.

J. Edgar Hoover was a guy who absolutely loved LBJ, and he would fit in well with the Bush Administration today.

Bob McNamara was a hardcore war hawk.

And Valenti has shown his true colors as well. He just loved the power of being around LBJ.

10. The people who lie most about the system are those with the most to gain
from propping up a corrupt system.

Those who wish a more equitable and fair system knows it first requires admitting just how corrupt the system really is...

11. I think he's absolutely, 100% correct.
Jack Valenti says, "I don't think you can buy a congressman's vote "

I think he's absolutely right. He knows a lot about these things. You're not really buying a vote, it's more of a lease. If you don't keep up the payments, the vote goes to the next bidder. You can also be outbid for that vote at any time, should someone bid higher.

It's sort of a lease, and sort of an auction. Saying you can "buy" a vote implies some form of long-term loyalty, from a one-time payment. As soon as the money stops rolling in, the votes are back up for sale.
