3. Remember that a lot of people saw it during the day on Sat.
That means cheaper ticket prices.

It still is kicking ass.

5. God, over 20 million on less than a 1000 screens....

In three days (Factoring in at least a 4 million dollar Sunday). If you listen really closely, you can hear the sound of jaws hitting the floor in Hollywood.

Much better than I expected.

6. Looks like it is going to beat the 'All time Doc Box office'
In just one weekend. The current record is around $21million set by Bowling for Columbine.

8. 16 million in just the two days? Pretty damn good.
It'll easily make over 20 million this weekend which isn't too shabby for a documentary AND the fact that the amount of theaters it's playing at is limited.

11. Whee!
The best part about this is it virtually guarantees a wider release. More screens = more eyeballs. Yay!

12. This movie has now made all its money back
It cost $6million to make and $10million to market. It has now brought in over $16million.

Just something to think about.

What will happen next weekend when it is on a few hundred more screens?

15. not quite yet
quite a bit of that $16,000,000 goes to the theaters showing the film. That said it would be nearly impossible at this point for the film not to make a hefty profit (particularly if it goes into wider release as a result of this weekend's box office, not to mention the DVD sales).

16. 90% of gate receipts go back to the distributor...
The theatres make their money from concessions. Ever wonder why popcorn is $5?

And they have a 12 million dollar advertising budget.

It will be profitable after next Friday.

He was already on the outs with the Disney board anyways. Between letting the Pixar deal go and then this? Sayonara, sucka!

And welcome to DU! :toast:
