Stop expecting to get good reviews from the media on Moore's movie |
|
He has already thrown down the gauntlet blaming the media for not asking questions before the war. It is natural for the media to get defensive and attack his work. Only if they would have put this much effort in attacking the war before we got in this mess. So don't blame the media they are feeling guilty.

I thought I would lose it when Gwen Ifill started talking about America bashing.

2. Most reviews I've seen have been good, but bad reviews help us, too |
|
Media folk who condemn the movie still draw attention to it. When you have prime reviewers like Ebert and Roper praise the movie, then lesser reviewers condemn it, then you have the movie breaking box office records, people get interested. Why the disagreement, they wonder. I'll just have to see the film for myself.
There are enough great reviews of this film that any of the bad ones simply raise the contraversy and draw more people to the film.

3. Thanks for making the point |

If the media embraces Moore's movie they have to accept responsibility. They can't do that.
Having said that however, some enterprising reporter wanting to make a splash, can do so by coming out with a NYT type of "mea culpa". In the competetive world of electronic journalism, I expect to see at least one of these in the next week or two.

6. for those not familiar with Rottentomatoes... |

"fresh" means good. F911 has more good reviews than the latest Spielberg movie. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/TheTerminal-1133499/

7. Actually, the reviews have generally been good... |
|
...even in many publications that tend toward the whorish.
But I'm not surprised.
I've long suspected that non-whores who work for the so-called "liberal media" have gravitated towards the arts sections, including movie reviewing. There, they can get ahead and earn a nice salary without having to sell their soul to the right-wing devils. Of course 95% of what movie, theatre and music reviewers write is not politically oriented, but when they do write about, say, movies that have a political POV, they seem far less intimidated than their counterparts on the news and editorial pages.
