Repub Richmond lining up for F911
Just a quick report from the republican backwater where I saw Moore's film yesterday. I had to call ahead to get tickets and pay by credit card, and when I got to the theater there were probably 200 people waiting in line to get inside with pre-bought tickets - no way you could buy them at the box office right before the show.
This theater is in the most repub, private school-ed, country club-ing, mansion-ed part of town and the crowds were huge!! People waiting with tickets to get in, people waiting to buy tickets for later shows, people being turned away. There was also someone there handing out voter registration applications!
During the movie the crowd was clapping, cheering, laughing, groaning, and booing. I've never been to anything like it. After it was over there was a huge round of applause and as I walked out I could hear people talking about how pissed off they were.
I can't believe all those folks were Democrats - Richmond doesn't have enough to keep filling up the theater throughout the weekend and cause lines like.
I think there were some true awakenings yesterday...

1. Any well meaning Republican, with honorable intentions
and any intellect would be outrage by Bush and Co. Good for them.

2. Bush has lost the backbone of his party
the Goldwater conservatives. All he's got left is new money, old religion, and total pinheads.

10. Great idea
I think I could round up a few people and I know my teenage daughter and her friends would love to hand out Kerry info. I took them yesterday and they loved it! They were stunned but it got them fired up.

4. I told my republican brother that he needs to see the movie because then
he can realize that this administration *does not* have his best interest in mind. They are running this country and creating policy for a very select group on individuals and he IS NOT in that group.

He thinks it is propaganda but after having seen the film I can make the argument to him that it is not propaganda and he has a moral responsibility to see the movie before he claims it is propaganda. (I always get him with the "moral responsibility", republicans are big that nonsense)

6. They like to think so!
"I always get him with the "moral responsibility", republicans are big that nonsense"

Too bad so few of them really follow it through.
I have many repubs in my family and they fight dirty when politics come up - I doubt this would work.
:P

8. Yes, I should have been more specific!
They do "think" they are on the moral high ground. That is why I use it against my brother. I am always telling him, if you think you are on the moral high ground, show me with your actions don't tell me with your words.

Of course he never does!

5. That is cool (fellow Richmonder here)!
I was driving around town yesterday, and didn't see it playing anywhere, then I read the Richmond Times "Distress" online and saw it was playing in one theater only. Glad to hear turn out is hot!

One of my neighbor's has a "Real Deal" sign that keeps getting taken down from their yard. I drove by their house this weekend, and I saw they decided to nail it into their wooden fence. Yeah!!!!!!!!!

9. My big Gore sign was vandalized in 2000
so I decided to get back at my neighbors ( I know who did it) by putting up a very tacky plastic, lighted Santa in my front yard. It was quite a unique decoration in our very staid and properly-decorated subdivision. Then I added a plastic Rudolph after the Santa had such a "positive" reaction.
I don't expect my Kerry sign to be messed with this year. If it is I'm thinking a plastic Creche on the roof or maybe Santa on a Harley...

:hi:

11. Wasn't it great, blue??
We went to the Friday 4 PM show and it was bedlam. People were buying tickets for Sat and Sun. The place was packed. I couldn't even sit with my friends -- no seats together.

There is a lot of pent-up anger at these assholes in office.
