the South is a great place for African-Americans to "live, work and play"
For the second time, Memphis has been named one of the top 10 cities for African-Americans to "live, work and play," according to the July issue of by Black Enterprise magazine.

But the city slid from its number five spot in 2001 to eighth in the 2004 ranking.

The top cities in order are Atlanta, Washington, Dallas, Nashville, Houston, Charlotte, Birmingham, Memphis; Columbus, Ohio; and Baltimore.

For Black Enterprise, the survey addresses issues, such as positive relationships between black Americans and law enforcement, that similar polls from other magazines don't.

"Those are the issues we care about," said Alfred Edmond, magazine editor-in-chief.
