Poll question: Which of these Kerry/VP tickets is your favorite?
Earlier today I asked about VP picks and excluded Clark and Edwards just because I wanted to see what people would say without the two DU favorites as a choice (look here for more: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1872160).

Anyway, I now am going to ask with Clark and Edwards.

So which of these tickets is your favorite and why?

I added #10 just because there was an open spot.

15. How can you even compare the two?
With all due respect:D, how can you compare John Edwards and Wes Clark?

Clark: Incredible reservoir of national security experience
Finished first in his class at West Point,
Was selected as a Rhodes Scholar,
Earned a degree from Oxford in Philosophy, Politics and Economics,
Was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart in Viet Nam
Served as Commander-in-Chief, Southern Command and in the dual role of Commander-in-Chief, European Command and Supreme Allied Commander, NATO
He has received honorary knighthoods from the British and Dutch governments
Was made a commander of the French Legion of Honor
After Gen. Clark retired, President Clinton awarded him the nation’s highest civilian honor
Raised only $3 million less than John Edwards in less than half the time when running for President

Edwards:
Served two years in the US Senate, after which he began to run for the Presidency, consequently missing the highest number of votes of any sitting Senator
Helped to write the Patriot Act
Joined his colleagues in giving Bush a blank check for an
Iraq invasion
Has NEVER accepted a pro bono case
is photogenic and possesses charisma, but whose stump speech borrows (I'm being polite here) his stump speech from someone else
is the son of a mill manager
has virtually NO national security experience
raised only $3 million more than Wes Clark over more than twice the time (15 months as opposed to 7 months) while running for President

I'm sorry. How you can use the two men in the same sentence with regard to the Vice Presidency of the US escapes me!

6. I like Kucinich, but
I really feel he can do a whole lot acting as his own person in Congress.

He can become another Wellstone.

7. Um has Kucinich even endorsed Kerry or is he still doing that lame Nader
clone thing?

I always thought Kucinich was a self absorbed demagogue, something like the Repuke fuck Nader, although Kucinich is not at least the hypocrite liar that Nader is and Kucinich has never worked for the Republicans.

Kucinich should pay attention to his congressional district. It's the only place he can help his country, and he ought to pull his head out of his ass to see his limits.

12. The primaries are over
Kucinich was staying around to collect delegates.

That's over and done with.

13. By showing up at the convention with delegates....
...Kucinich can influence the platform, and hopefully encourage the Party to at least talk about traditional Democratic issues (the ones that the DLC and neo-dems would rather forget about.)

4. Edwards will win us the election.
That is my only concern.

Everybody else would be fine EXCEPT the DINO Lieberman, and Gephardt doesn't thrill me much.

We need Edwards.

5. I've been a Clarkie for awhile
But I do see a lot of potential with Edwards on the ticket.

He adds lots of youth, personality and enthusiasm, and is virtually scandal-free. He knows how to battle in tough campaigns, after being ripped apart by the Helms Machine. The guy just bounces back for more.

Clark is also a plus, and brings a lot of appeal to military types, national security-minded folks, and even the left with some of his stances. But can he battle it out with the GOP smear machine?

Besides, it would seem like a man of Clark's experience would be wasted as a VP. I think he'd be the greatest Secretary of State we've ever had. Just think about this guy's rolodex! He's on a first-name basis with at least half the leaders in the world!

This is truly the place for Clark. Edwards does add a lot to the ticket as VP. It's the perfect role.

10. Clark, hands down. Tonight's CNN appearance, wherein he
smacked-down the Bushies mouthpiece was beautiful, and clearly demonstrates his ability to take it to Cheney.

11. I like Edwards - I like Clark too but when I met him he gave me a
wimpy handshake and he was very small physically and not very inspirational in his speech.

17. Seek a life...
His handshake is great! He took a bullet in that hand in 'Nam, so I wouldn't be surprised if his grip slackened a bit after 50,000 or so shakes.

Being tall is the absolute last thing I'm worried about in a VP, lol!

I expect the lack of inspiration you had in listening to his speech had more to do with your perceptions then his delivery.

14. I would say....
Kerry/Clark
Kerry/Cleland
Kerry/Graham
Kerry/Richardson

Each of these tickets offer more than Edwards/Media Presstitutes pushing Media Sheeples to want Edwards......

At this point, with all of the pushing.....Kerry picking Edwards will make Kerry look like he bends under outside pressure and does not make independent important decisions...but waves a finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. Edwards' supporters made a mistake pushing him so outright and bluntly. Kerry looks like he's been backed into a corner...even if he has good reasons to pick Edwards. Thus far Kerry, Cathill, Johnson and Clinton have all advised that they would pick someone with FP experience. Him picking Edwards will look like a giant Flip/Flop.... and that is how the Presstitutes will nail Kerry. I it happens, It will be the biggest journalist "Gotcha" yet....IMO.

Being referred to as a "media sheeple"... I think Edwards did a hell of a job in the primaries.. Sorry, mac, but your guy didn't. I acknowledge that he's sounded pretty good and feisty on tv lately, but he was not ready for prime time during the primaries. Obviously, I'm going to support the ticket no matter what.

But I think there are a hell of a lot of good reasons to support Edwards on the ticket. He has done a great job of reframing economic issues in such a way that he can drive a serious wedge in the "coalition" that the GOP has between CEOs and Crony Capitalists, on one hand, and lower income folks in the heartland who have somehow been convinced that the GOP has their interests in mind. No one else, not clark, certainly, has shown that kind of populist ability to reframe the debate. Edwards has charisma. He can inspire. He's upbeat and intelligent, and we're running against a ticket that has the capability to feign one or the other of those qualities, but certainly not combined in one individual.

Wes Clark does have some good things to recommend him, but the fact that he's the hand picked man of the Little Rock axis isn't, in my opinion, enough to automatically grant him a slot on the ticket. Frankly, while I think Bill Clinton was an excellent president, the Democratic Party is too big and too important and too democratic (unlike certain other political parties) to be the exclusive domain of one family. And, whereas I don't see any "media sheeples" really pushing Edwards, I do think the Clintons have been behind much of the pushing on Clark. And, hey- more power to 'em, I respect their opinion.

But I think Edwards is the better choice of two good men. And I'm hardly a media sheeple.

edit: punct.

16. My personal favorite - Kerry/Dean, but I think Kerry/Edwards will
do better at the polls. I saw Dean last night on CNN - awesome! Unfortunately, I just think we are still at a place in this country where two New Englanders on a ticket wouldn't win.
